If you had to pick a last meal ...
For repeated and flagrant violations of the Patriot Act, all DUers are hereby sentenced to summary execution. So, what'll ya have?
Me: A dozen Cherrystone clams with clam broth and clarified butter, a one and a half pound Maine lobster (steamed, not boiled) with more butter, a petit filet mignon wrapped in bacon (medium-rare) with Pickapeppa steak sauce, and Silver Queen corn picked fresh that morning. I'll wash it down with a six-pack of ice-cold Miller Lite (I'm a hopelessly pedestrian beer drinker).

A nice smoked salmon Caesar Salad
A pot of mustard and turnip greens
Whole wheat gingerbread spiked with dates and prunes, served with lemon curd
A big pot of coffee with cream

I will probably be so upset after eating this dinner, this deadly combination will exit my remains at the execution scene. How much torture can they do to a dead person?

So I would have mac and cheese with steak (which I swear to this day is the BEST food combo ever) as an entree with a few asian lettuce wraps on the side and then go to claim jumper and have an ice cream sandwhich (if you were take a regular ice cream sandwhich, multiply its size and contents by 4 or 5 times, then drenched it in hot fudge and whipped cream you would have the claim jumper ice cream sandwhich.)

29. I just finished a book about the world history of salt.
No kidding. And at least two chapters were devoted to the tale of pickled herring. I even learned where the term "red herring" came from: apparently, a well-cured herring turns deep pink or red. Unscrupulous picklers would add red paint or dye to their barrels to make the fish appear well-cured.

So. Maybe one day I'll have to try pickled herring.

31. my illusions were shattered...
...a couple years ago when I learned it is just a myth that you can order "whatever you like" for your last meal. Apparently a prisoner sued because he wanted a lobster and champagne. Neither the alcohol nor the lobster were allowed, it sounded like they were going to order him a cheeseburger. They said that the other death row prisoners had always ordered things like ribs, cheeseburger, prime rib, etc. so they had never dealt with a real gourmand before. Can't recall where I read this though? Anyone else hear this?
