Need advice on my voter registration!
This link got me thinking...

http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2004/Jul-09-Fri-2004/news/24275955.html

My district is SOLIDLY Repuke... can't change who I send to Congress.

My state is SOLIDLY Dem... Kerry can't lose California, no matter what I do.

So I'm thinking.... should I register in Nevada? I'd like my vote to COUNT.

1. If you can.
My daughter's father-in-law (repuke) owns homes in MA and FL.
He votes in FL because it "counts more" there.

2. Register Where You Live
And vote the way you feel.

Changing who you want to represent you is a slow process sometimes, but if enough of you do it in your District, things will change.

Don't take any shortcuts.

4. That's all well and good,
If I'm allowed to vote in 2006 and 2008... and beyond. Frankly, I have my doubts, if we can't get this election right, that I'll ever be allowed to vote again.

13. All You Can Do
Is what you CAN do.

If you feel your vote won't be counted, then do what you feel is right for yourself and others in a manner you can live with.

5. How can you registar in Nevada??
While it would be great to get another Kerry vote in NV, I don't advise doing this.

Would we want to see Repugs that don't live in a swing state like NV doing the same thing for Bush???

7. Think they're not already?
Read trof's post. I drop enough money in Vegas, I ought to able to use my buddy's address as my residence, for voting and tax purposes.

High school athletes do it all the time... they list a booster's address as their home, so they can play for a competitive school, in a competitive district, to get the attention of scouts. This is MUCH more important.

It was just a thought. I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!

11. Baby? Baby? Who is this "baby?"
The Fuhrer never said "baby!"

The Fuhrer was good! The Fuhrer was kind!
Not many people know this... but the Fuhrer was a TERRIFIC dancer!

6. If you have a legal residence in Nevada
Sure, it might make more impact. If you don't, then I would remind you that voter fraud is a federal felony punishable by a large fine and jail time.

Voter fraud can happen in large, paid voter registration drives, but I hate seeing articles like this. Some people are simply threatened by the idea of a large number of poor people and minorities registering to vote for the first time. They will spread news like this and the article about ACT hiring ex-felons to undermine their efforts. Many county clerks are part of a local political machine and don't like outside groups coming in to upset the established order in their county. I wonder if the County Clerk in this article is a Republican.

If you're feeling helpless to make an impact in California I would just suggest that anyone's impact is larger at the local level. If you get involved in a local or state legislative race you're efforts will have a larger effect and be more noticed than getting involved in the Presidential campaign. Maybe you can find a candidate in your area you can get excited about.

8. Hey! I live in the only county in PA that Bush won the last
time, or so I read. I just moved here last year. What am I doing?

Changed 5-6 peoples registrations from Republican to Dem.
Got a few to register first time as Democrats.
Held house parties to listen to the Democratic primary debates.

But most importantly, I talk about politics at work (that is a social sin but not illegal yet...since I'm just now an hourly puke (by choice gave up management ahhhh what a nice option) I've not much worry about 'harassment'...freedom of speech is SO worth the pay cut (from $50k to $8 an hour) when you have the choice...ahhh!)

I am so sad that speaking about politics is 'politically incorrect' at work. And I ignore that, like I do a lot of social convention.
But now, after almost a year, everyone else is talking politics, too, and it is 98% get him out of office talk. Only have one or two who are Republican, but we are educating them! I never have found a repub who KNOWS what the hell is going on, for any issues at all. So I took this quiet almost country-like workplace, with talk of local high school teams and backyard bbq's and beer, to a place where everyday, Bush gets talked about...and not happily. When the tickets went out last Monday for Bush's appearance, everyone asked me Tuesday so Deb, were you first in line? It's cool. This is what we need. One coworker said, why don't you run for office. I said because I'm too much of a Howard Dean, I'll just tell it like it is. I am very blunt. I will listen to others, but I know I'm too forceful passionate and blunt. I told her what I want to do is what was done in Revolutionary times by the Committees of Correspondance...get out the info and keep people talking and thinking. That is where it really is for me. And since I really don't care what people think of me...rude, impolite...I'm perfect for the job!

10. Don't cheat.
Your vote does count, even if it is not the way you would like it to.

However, if you got to school part of the year in NV or something like that, them definitely change your registration.

14. I just remembered...
GHWBush claimed he was a resident of Texas by using a hotel room as his home address when running for Vice-President and President. He is no more a Texan than I am from Kennebunkport.

Big Dick Cheney claimed to be a resident of Wyoming when running for Vice-President, even though he was clearly a resident of Texas who had not resided in Wyoming since he left Congress.

So I got that going for me. Which is nice.
