What is the difference between a fetish and an interest?
I have some fetishes that I won't go into here....:-)

But I don't understand the difference between a fetish and an interest. Are there any differences?

Just some extremely pointless musings on a Sunday morning, I guess.

Terry

1. The word "fetish" ...
...is just a pejorative, judgement-filled version of the word "interest."

4. Easy! (Not)
Fetishes are compulsions and obsessions. Without one's fetish, the desired activity feels incomplete and frustrating.

Interests are optional. Even if your interest is intense, you are able to get pleasure from the activity without it and not feel like you're missing something.

Fetishes often "ride along" with other disturbances and/or non-standard behaviors, especially related to mental illness.

Generally speaking, unless a fetish interferes with your life, it's not considered to be a big deal.

I'm sure I've left out a few details, but this is the basic process. A web search will turn up a lot more information. Good luck! (And if it's a sexual fetish, "play safe," too!)

5. Well,
According to dictionary.com a fetish is: "Something, such as a material object or a nonsexual part of the body, that arouses sexual desire and may become necessary for sexual gratification."

So as an interest may be passing, or something you're never tried that you'd like to, a fetish is something you need.

For instance, if you're into something like edgeplay or play piercing, that tends to be a major pain fetish. It's not something that most will ever have a passing interest in. Either being cut turns you on, or it doesn't.

It doesn't always have to be sexual. Collectors have fetishes for what they collect. Some of us ladies have a major fetish for shoe shopping and have more shoes than we have room for. The list can go on.
