Poll question: If there were a North American DU Convention where would like it to be? |
|
What's a great location for a DU convention?
I'm partial to Chicago or New Orleans.

I'd have to say somewhere in North Dakota. After all...that's the geographic center of NA. :)

39. Yeah, that's what I was going to suggest! |
|
You all could come see the lovli lakes! (But I don't think we have any majestic moose, at least not in the cities...) And we could TP Norm Coleman's house!
But seriously, since not too many people live around here, I do think Chicago would be the best choice.

|
Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 01:18 PM by Bombtrack
because it's near the middle of the country, and it's more fun than Chicago
Although there are probably more DUers in NYC than any other city.
Maybe you could have a tri-convention. Southerners can go to New Orleans, Northerers NYC, and Westerners Vegas or LA

Actually, since I'm in central CT, my FIRST choice would be somewhere between NY and Boston, but it would bot be very centralized and probably more pricey overall. Vegas would probably be the most affordable for the greatest majority of people and have the cheapest flights.

Actually Ridgefield is more western CT/Litchfield or Fairfield County which I don't know too much about, but I think there are others here who might. I hope you enjoy our state while you're here. It has some good spots. :)

It's centrally located for everyone, is a transportation hub and is a hell of a lot of fun. New Orleans would be my second choice. It's closer to home for me, near the middle of the country and also a lot of fun.

52. Maybe. But I just didn't like it. It was one of the few places |
|
that just gave me a bad feeling, one that was strong, persisted throughout my time there, and was based on no apparent immediate reason.
Not that I liked the place that much on another level, either -- just too gray, drab, and 'industrial' compared to where I came from and the places that I'd already seen and liked. Some great architecture, but just not a place that appealed to my innate sense of aesthetics. Felt wrong. And more so than some of the other Midwest cities I've visited, most of which I acknowledge as being far less spiffy a place than Chicago (but none of which gave me that ominous feeling).
I guess I'm not inherently an Eastern-city dude, or a Chicago dude. Maybe I was Al Capone in a previous life. That might explain it. Phoenix, AZ, gave me exactly the same feeling, though -- couldn't wait to get out of that place.

|
Let's try to figure out where everyone lives first. Chicago is centrally located but not too useful if most DUers are concentrated in another region as opposed to being spread out evanly. It's obvious DUers can be found everywhere but we should choose a place accesible to most.

The last time I stayed in Chicago, I was amazed at how inexpensive good hotels and restaurants were, in comparison to Boston, DC, NYC and Miami. It seems the less expensive the venue, the more people would be able to attend. And it's a wonderful city to visit anyway. :-)

Hotels and airfare are dirt-cheap, it's reasonably central compared to the coastal cities mentioned, and it's a great city for grownups to do their own thing. Vegas is too, of course, but Reno's cheaper and more central for the folks who live further north.
