What's the best method for selling the canoe that I won?
I won a canoe in a drawing at a local bar a couple weeks ago. It's a We-No-Nah, painted yellow with Leinenkugel's Honey Weis logos on it. It's about 14-16 feet, but I can't get any further information on the model, etc. Most of the We-No-Nah canoes go for at least $1000. Not that I'm expecting to get that much...

Should I try to E-bay it? Put a classified ad in the Chicago Tribune? Any other sites?

Please help! - Thanks, tcfrogs

3. I would put it on eBay
Someone might collect Leinenkugel merchandise and will be willing to bid more on it for their collection alone.

4. Do a raffle at work, the parents of kids friends
the neighbors - you could take in quite a haul!

Or, you could just keep it and go "Lewis and Clark"ing around!

6. Re - shipping on E-bay
A friend sold an old, collectible appliance on Ebay. The winning bid was about $400, shipping costs $600! The buyer really wanted the item and was willing to pay. Go figure...

7. Someone might collect beer merchandise
A collect will pay anything if they want it bad enough.

10. That's my quandry with e-bay
If it's not someone within reasonable driving distance, I don't know how to accurately gauge shipping costs.

19. You could contact UPS and get a minimum and maximum
amount that will be charged for shipping the item. Just give them the info on where you are, the weight of the canoe, the dimensions, and ask them to give you minimum and maximum amounts for shipping it.

I do know about craig's list, paddling.net I hadn't heard about, and will look into the "beer" & collecting communities.

13. Shipping a Canoe
Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 08:45 PM by SoDesuKa
The price of shipping the canoe increases significantly if you can't find an all-water route. Then you have to schlep the thing over land, which isn't any fun at all. You also have to pay the canoe-ist for the journey and reimbursement for meals.

If you can ship a canoe, can you canoe a ship?

14. I take it you live somewhere 'round Chicago....

In the Woodfield Shopping Gargantu-Mall, there is a store that sells all sorts of beer company promotional items. You could check with them and see if they'd want to buy it from you.

16. I would start with E-Bay for sure...
Put a reserve on it for the lowest amount you would part with it and find out up front what the shipping will be to let the potential buyers know. You would only lose a few bucks if it doesn't sell and then you can try another route. E-Bay has a WORLD audience, so it's definitely worth trying first.

17. Funny Story.
Charles P. Taft was the great uncle to the current governor of the State of Ohio. For some reason he was the only Taft that was a Democrat. How that ever happened I don't know but I think it has something to do with being the only Taft that wasn't a stick-in-the-mud.

Anyway in the last years of his political career he was a member of Cincinnati City Council and he would drive to and from work in his station wagon with a canoe on top. After a while of doing this someone got enough nerve to ask Charles about the canoe and how often he uses it. His answer was that he never uses the canoe or goes canoeing. He said he only has the canoe mounted on his car to make his car easy to spot in a crowded parking lot.

Sorry this doesn't help you out but it does give you another selling point about the canoe.

Good luck to you.
