I just registered 3 people to vote at a Moveon voter registration party... |
|
Woohoo! Only one creep hung up on me with "I don't vote!" Nice. One person in her 50s had never voted, and promised to, another was a young woman who didn't realize she needed to re-register if she moved to another district in the state, and she was planning to vote (so THAT was very cool). She also asked me how she could find information on Kerry. And the other one was planning to register but this made it easier for her.
This with a call list of only about 30 names, half of which had disconnected numbers or no answer. With over 12,000 people attending parties tonight, that could add up to some serious numbers.
I feel good tonight! :)
Anyone else attend a Moveon phone party tonight?

1. I just got back from my moveon event at Venice Beach |
|
and I didn't register anyone. A lot of the #'s were disc. However, I did speak to a gal (who I guess was roommates with the person on the list)who didn't know she could go to the post office to register and she assured me that she and the roommate would register and definitely would vote for Kerry. The state we were calling was Florida.

2. Good for you! I am also in Florida, in the Tampa area.... |
|
The other ones at the party got only one or two apiece, but still... even if every person got only one person to register on average (and it sounds like you got two!!) then that means 12,000 new registered voters in democratic leaning districts!
I got a couple registered in the Miami area and one up here in St. Pete.
I'm sure that there was no one in MY community on that caller list... even the women at the party laughed when I said where I lived. It's too much... after the election, I am moving.

3. I registered 2 people out of about... |

144 calls.
Did you get anyone who said they had been called 2 or 3 times before?
I got one really rude guy and several nice people who said they had been called already.

4. I only had a list of 30 |

And no I only got one rude caller which I mentioned. No one said that they had already been called. Though half of the people I did call were already registered.
144 Calls! WOW! You are dedicated.

5. We all had lists of 36.. |
|
several of the folks said that the people they called had received as many as five calls. I guess we need to work on our database. I still feel really good...at least we're doing something constructive...It was heartwarming to see folks scattered all about (we were at a REALLY cool house not far at all from the beach)trying to make a difference. Sometimes it's so hard to remember that WE ARE THE MAJORITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7. Absolutely, I think it was a good thing... |
|
I was just interested to see if anyone had the same experience.
Overall, most people were nice and said they had been called before.
