Granted that it has been awhile since I have, but my recollection tells me that the two genius-huckster categories are not mutually exclusive.

But he ain't no New Orleans chef like the old days. He's no different than Justin Wilson (the guy from Mississippi who had that very bad, fake Cajun accent). Yes, I have eaten Emeril's food, cooked personally by him, but it is NOT Cajun cookin' like you'd find in Breaux Bridge.
He's a good cook. That's all. There are thousands of better cooks, most of whom are unknown and live in the city as well as the bayou. For instance, there's a gas station outside Lafayette that has the best boudin I've ever had, made by a little old lady. Emeril doesn't even come close to her cooking, but he charges 20x more.
