Not just Republicans for Kerry... but former Republicans who now are questioning their own sense of how morals/values should play in politics... I met someone on friday night (while setting up for the Kerry/Edwards rally) who said something along the lines of "I don't care about gay people, or abortion... I realize that I don't really care about the things that the leaders of the party are telling me to believe as a republican, so perhaps it's time to take another look at where I belong."

Howard Zinn had a line in one of his books about how every racist cares about something more than his prejudice, and the trick is to find out what that is. I think Edwards is good at finding out what social conservatives in the south care about more than bigotry against gays and abortion. He was my second choice in the primary, and the only candidate with a good chance of winning that I liked.
