"How'd you do that?" Cat content for today
Today I needed some activated carbon and ammonia absorber for one of my aquarium filters, and the only place in town that has it is Petsmart.

I always go to the cat room when I'm there. Today they had unlocked cages and shelter employees there.

One cat they had belonged to a cancer patient who had to give him up yesterday because they didn't want the cat and the patient's chemo-devastated immune system in the same house. So the cat's in a cage. He's about 20 pounds and orange with a white underside.

"He's antisocial. Won't eat, won't associate with anyone."

'Can I play with him?' "Be my guest."

He was sleeping in his litter box. I dragged it to the front of the cage and started petting him. About a minute later, he started eating and didn't stop until the bowl was empty. Then he drank some water, after which he crawled out of the cage, got in my lap and rolled over for a good sound belly rub. A couple minutes of that was good for him; he got up, went back in his cage and lay there purring.

"How'd you do that?"

1. Way to go! I feel sorry for people advised to give up their pets...
...over chemo or HIV.

It's usually not necessary and a long time pet usually doesn't pose much risk to immunocompromised patients.

Believe me, as someone who had 5 cats and 3 dogs at the time I was diagnosed with full-blown AIDS (with 22 t-cells which was pretty much totally gone, but now up to 200), I hate the thought of someone telling me to rid myself of my pets.

2. Why do Doctors tell people to do that?
Your a wonderful caring person and your pets have a good home.

I had 3 dogs, 4 cats and a bird plus a tropical fish tank at one time.

I was sick and a Doctor told me that my pets were making me sick.

Pets pull you through hard times and most Doctors don't know shit about it.

Are you doing better now?

I noticed that you got a new baby and he is adorable.

5. Oh yeah...I'm doing great. Unemployed, in school, but healthy...
...I started meds 4.5 years ago and haven't been sick once in that time.

7. It goes both ways
One of the hardest thing I ever had to endure was holding my cat Spot in my arms as she geve into feline lukemia. Just about as hard as my wife saying that 29 yrs with me was enough.

9. He's a freeper who hates cats
We're all fairly sure he came from under a bush somewhere.

We're trying to find him a Republican woman who holds a Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement so they can team-drive--he seems to like hauling produce from California to Spokane better than anything. They're out there, but where?

10. The cat's in Fayetteville, NC
He's going to be a tricky one to place; not only does he weigh 20 pounds, he tends to hiss at people who aren't rubbing his rotten belly. That seems to be common with orange cats; every one I've ever had did it.

8. Poor kitty was probably saddest
because he couldn't be there for his owner when he was most needed.

You made him feel needed again! :D
