Cosmetic surgery: Would you go under the knife?

Just watching (OK, it's in the background and I'm too lazy to find the remote) the "fountain of youth" special on CNN and was wondering how DUer's feel about plastic surgery or other procedures like botox injections.

So, how do you feel about looking your age?

2. used to desperately want a nose job

when I was a teenager but as I got older I realised there were far better things to spend $5000 on. Also realised that if I removed the (relatively small although it seemed HUGE back then) bump from my nose I'd only begin obsessing on something else - next up would be a boob job, then god only knows what else - knee cap realignment??

I've also found out a bit more about exactly what it is they DO to you and what the possible side effects are - Ironically it's ego that would really stop me imagine everyone knowing that you died because you were THAT concerned about your tits not being jumbo sized.

4. I actually have...kind of.

Before I was 2 years old, I had surgery for a wandering eye (strabismus is the official term). It didn't fix my lack of depth perception, but my left eye doesn't wander anymore. Technically it should have been considered cosmetic surgery, but since the doctor was delusional enough to think he could give me depth perception, the surgeries were considered medical but unsuccessful.

Until about three days ago, I thought I would someday like to have liposuction, but then I read that it's the most dangerous form of cosmetic surgery. And I don't really have a big tummy or anything, but I always remember one of my friends commenting on what he called Heather Graham's "pudgy stomach" in Austin Powers, and that really killed me because I have about as much stomach as she does in that movie. I mean, :wtf: Not everybody can have a frigging six-pack! :mad:

As far as botox...I'll worry about that when the time comes, but I'm definitely scared as hell of getting and looking older (which is totally shallow and stupid, I know). :(

5. Dichotomy of thoughts here.

It's strange because for the most part, I feel comfortable with myself and enough people tell me I'm cute (youngish face, already curvy and such), so I must be, but one little thing that bugs me is how my tummy is different after having children. Not horrible, but not the same and it can't quite be exercised away. I have this need and expectation of myself to be "perfect" (I don't even mean simply physically) which is something I try to work on as it's impossible for anyone to live up to this unattainable image (very aware of all the childhood stuff of where it comes from too). Maybe it's just that I know my marriage is ending and inevitably.....eventually, I probably will be intimate with someone else and I wonder sometimes with everything our culture hands out, do most men expect perfection?

On the other hand, any man who would expect some perfect, plastic person is not someone I'd want to be with either, so while in a way it would make me feel better, I'd rather just be me knowing I'm loved for who I am. Plus too, I don't have any big urges to spawn again anytime soon, but I could conceive of being open to it once more in a different set of circumstances. I still have at least a good 10 fertile years left and one never knows what life has in store. It would be just my luck, I've save up for a tummy tuck, do it, and end up preggers again.

or just make you self-conscious if someone else should see it?

Hmm... Do most men expect perfection? Do you? Just pick one with a few "warts" and then he has not room to talk about yours.

Plus, I think you answered your own question. Would you want to be with something that would be hung up on that?

8. Not really.

I look great in clothes, but when I'm naked, I can get a little neurotic at times within myself.
Plus, I've spent a fair amount of time at the local pool seeing other mommies in their swimsuits. I'd say now I'm doing pretty well in comparison so I should be grateful and content. I think it's just been so long since I've been with anyone else, the thought kind of freaks me out.
I wouldn't expect perfection either. I'm just harder on myself than I am on others.
And yes, I did answer my question. I voted "only if disfigured" BTW. :D

9. I want to have my ears trimmed to be pointy, like an elf's

I think that'd be cool. the only cosmetic I'd even consider

10. I have no problem with aging...

but I'd consider surgery if I was disfigured in an accident or something.
