Cat help needed: I know who the mystery cat pee-peer is
It's Abbott.

I keep a pretty clean litter box and I live in an aparment where he lounges just feet away from where the litter box is found.

I finally caught him in the act this morning. I don't think it's urinary track infection because I still see him go in and out of the litter box with ease.

HELP!!!

How can I stop him from going behind the entertainment center!!

1. Lynne, I can't offer you any advice, but I have to say...
...that your thread title is the funniest one on the Lounge page this morning. :-)

Glad you caught the culprit. :-)

2. I'm glad you find amusement in my cat's bad bathroom habits
Mind stopping by and cleaning up his mess?

Thanks!

Lynne

3. Have you tried "Cat Away"?
http://www.petvetsupply.com/prpkfar004.html

But I doubt that's the problem. We had a cat who peed in the same exact spot on a couch cushion about 3 times--we finally just got rid of the cushion and the cover, bought a new one, then put a cover over the whole couch; she hasn't done it since then. I think it may have been an obsessive-compulsive thing with her; cats are prone to OCD.

My parents had a cat with an extreme case: they took in a stray why gnawed all the fur off of his tail; they have him on some kind of medicine now, and he's fine.

I'd just bring your cat to the vet to be sure, then block all access to that spot on the carpet. Put a bookshelf there or something.

5. I bought a "Little Green Steam Machine" this weekend
You could eat off my carpeting, well except that spot behind the entertainment center. But that stuff just SUCKS the dirt right out of the carpeting!!

6. There has to be some reason.
One of the cats my parents owned was a "phantom pee-er" all the time there were other cats in the house. Apparently, they made her nervous, or freaked her out in some way. After the other cats passed on, this one had no problems whatsoever.

Maybe Evita has rebuffed his advances, and he's upset. ;-)

7. well, Evita is so beautiful and has rejected poor Abbott
I suppose he can't help but feeling sad that the most beautiful cat in the world won't love him

8. Maybe she taunts him for his lack of balls,
and he's getting back at you by peeing behind the entertainment center.

9. Not only did she lose her "balls" but she was pregnant when it happened
however she doesn't feel the need to 'get back' at me

10. Hmmm...but you can't SEE hers are missing.
For all she knows they are there. And, maybe she secretly thanks you because she wasn't ready for kittens...

11. She's three years old, I'm sure she has already had kittens
For all I know there could be a dozen of Evita's offspring out there traumatized over the fact that their mother no longer acknowledges them!!

15. Get his blood sugar checked.
First sign of Ace's diabetes was peeing in inappropriate places.
Is he drinking a lot of water?

19. someone is drinking lots of water because the bowl is empty each morning
Or at least close to empty. And it's a big bowl of water I give them each day

21. Found out Ace was diabetic about 4 years ago.
He started peeing on my bathmat. Totally out of character. He's an indoor-outdoor cat, with a big litter box inside.
I give him insulin injections morning and evening.
It's easy if you're OK with needles.
(Miz t. can't do it.)

16. suggestions
Get a "Scat Mat" and put it where he's been peeing -- see http://www.doctorsfostersmith.com

Get "Feliway" -- see same site

Get another litter box. Having one per cat often stops inappropriate elimination.

Good luck!

18. I know how frustrating this is
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 08:23 AM by AnybodyButBush
We had the same problem. The vet and I tried everything and as a last resort she put "Pablo Picasso" on Valium. 1mg twice a day, hidden in some canned food. It worked. And he stayed on that dose for almost eight years. He eventually weened himself off the Valium. He lived to be 13 or 14, (he was an adult stray when we got him). Sure do miss him.

22. valium for cats!?
 Try vinegar. Leave an uncovered bowl full of it to get rid of the smell. Also try sprtizing a vinegar:water mixture where they pee. The scent will go away and the cat should (hyopefully) stop peeing there. Worked for Fuzzy :)
