"Love Actually": What did you think?
I saw it this weekend and really enjoyed it. Good stories, good music. All-around winner...

2. I liked it quite a bit....
Normally I loathe the romantic comedy genre. But this was sharp, intelligent humor that rarely delved into sap territory.

The only question I had which I didn't catch any explanation for is the relationship between Emma Thompson's character and Liam Neeson's. They are seen briefly together in his kitchen talking but I don't recall who they were in relation to each other.

3. Some storylines worked better than others.
I should note that I was really enthusiastic when I saw the cast list (e.g. Alan Rickman, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson -- wow!). I'm also generally a fan of Richard Curtis (mostly things like the TV show The Vicar of Dibley, Black Adder, Four Weddings and a Funeral).

I also liked the whole premise of the movie -- that love really is more present in our world than we realize. Love in the film wasn't just romantic attachment, either; it was friendship, loyalty, family, etc.

That said, it was a bit too reliant on the F-word and a little too overwhelming regarding storylines. Less is more with Richard Curtis. For example, I loved Four Weddings and Funeral, which hummed along beautifully, mixed comedy and heartbreak, and made terrific use of its ensemble cast. However, I hated, hated, hated, hated the screenplay for Bridget Jones's Diary and the film Notting Hill, both of which fell rather flat and desperately needed editing, rethinking, and reworking. Did I mention that I hated them?

when we went to see F911. I just about passed out. Sign me up to sit with Liam Neeson and talk about sex for hours. :)
