Those of you who've read my posts: do you agree?

edit: wow... interesting typo there! "accused" in the subject was originally "abused." Hmm.

1. WTF?
There's no such thing as too tolerant (unless you're advocating 1 week of comunity service as a punishment for child abuse or something like that). Whoever says that to you is full of shit. And that's all I have to say.

2. here's an example of "too tolerant"
I have a friend, Stuart, who worked 8+ years for shrub in TX and the WH, and just finished up in Baghdad as IG for the Coalition Provisional Authority.

Yes, I said "friend."

I posted about Stuart on another thread today. It wasn't in that thread that I was called "too tolerant." But because I have friends like Stuart, I'm called too tolerant.

I've also been called too tolerant because I have forgiven people who caused me grave harm.

So, I'm just curious.

I think I want to know WHY someone would call me too tolerant. No one has the right to do so.

5. Not at all....
the people who decide which friends they have or which family members to associate with based on the way somebody votes are the losers.

There's a whole wide world outside politics - it's called life.

18. Amen, Dookus.
Politics will be very important, at least until November, but it's sure not my whole life.

7. Better to be tolerant than the reverse
I am far more tolerant today then i was say 10 years ago, maybe that comes with getting older and learning more. Alot of things piss me off still but i try not to let it rule my world. I think people who are intolerant are really just ignorant and hopefully they will take some time and try to educate themselves on what ever that matter is. With some, that will never happen and they are beyond reaching.

12. I have wonderful friends who are right wing.
As long as they respect my beliefs I can deal.
As far as forgiving people who have hurt you, I believe not forgiving is more damaging to you than to the other person.
Of course I've been told I am too tolerant as well, so maybe you don't want to listen to me.

13. If Stuart doesn't give you grief, it's great
One of the posters at the Formula One newsgroup I'm in is a 70-something man from Texas, a Republican, as his wife also is. I have been at their house. Nicest folks. They don't go trolling about politics 24/7 as the typical freeper does. He likes to post groaner puns at the board, which much amuses the denizens.

The newsgroup server administrator is also a Republican, from California no less. (He set it up on a Linux machine at his work after our previous site was engulfed&devoured by F1's head honchos) He also hardly spouts politics (last time I remember is months ago him mumbling that his mother listens to Al Franken).

Lots of American liberals there, too, and all get along. There's a deranged freepish troll that shows up from time to time but nobody takes him seriously -- not even the two people mentioned above.

If I piqued your curiosity (and you're into auto racing in general) go to news://news.f1ngers.com/F1NGers - should open automatically in Outlook, Mozilla, or Thunderbird.

Now, about forgiving people who caused you grave harm, depending on the particulars (and on your definition of "forgiving") I MAY call it "unwise", but never "too tolerant".

I think it applies to a lot of my fellow Vermonters..come on up and see for yourself! We have cats (5 here) and critters too, at the base of Mt Mansfield in The Beautiful Green Mountains.

On edit...visited your AWESOME home page and was duly impressed!

16. Sounds LOVELY.
I'm not a bit surprised to hear your statesmen are like you, with Gov. Dean a representative of Vermonters.

Glad you liked the kitties. :)

17. I am tolerant
but I try not to let others roll over me. I don't think being tolerant is a bad thing. It is better than being intolerant. It is good to try to see other's points of view.

20. I get that too.
Either I get accused of being tolerant or of thinking myself better than others. I get accused of being smug a lot. I think, on message boards, the trouble is that we're not speaking...we are typing. And it can come across in a completely different tone than we intend.

I genuinely like people, including their faults. I try to see something good in everyone. I see that in you as well. I don't think it makes you too tolerant. I've seen you call foul on things. I think you're just a genuinely nice and empathetic person.

Laura
