So, who is considering applying for a DU mod position?
Would you be a good mod? Why or why not?

Any current or former mods care to share their experiences?

1. I've applied again. I was a moderator in the Lounge. I won't be upset...
though if I'm not chosen. :-)

2. I think having a banning on one's record

automatically disqualifies one.

Ya think?

You never know. We are a party that prides itself on tolerance, acceptance and forgiveness.

7. Apparently, you weren't here last Friday
Things got blown way out of proportion. Some folks got offended (rightly so), others did too (not rightly so). It was ugly.

12. I WAS here on Friday
But IIRC, that's not when or why she was banned.

I'm just bitter because I got flamed for a thread that was not gender-specific.

And I certainly don't mean to offend anyone. Carry on! :)

I wasn't part of it, but you aren't the "offended" police. You can't tell people when they should and shouldn't take offense to something.

8. I didn't know that, thanks

I just assumed they wouldn't want me. I don't think I could be a mod though, I'm actively looking for a job and doing lots of odd chores for neighbors... I'm not really reliable right now. Maybe in the future, though.

21. Byron you would be a mod with a view
of your past repartee! It might be an interesting challenge. But hard with little ones. It sounds cool, but I don't have to time to commit, with work and kid home for summer.

9. I loved it
served right through the primaries from september 03 to February 04. Started in the Lounge, finished in GD2K4. It was incredibly hard, but extremely rewarding and fun at the same time.

There are days I loved modding and days I wanted to yank my hair out and throw it at the computer. But I wouldn't trade any of those days at all.

10. I think (as a former moderator) that anyone who spends daily time here
should try their hand at it. It is definitely eye opening. It is also a rewarding experience...i.e. not all of the PM's you get will be hate mail. ;) It gives you the chance to see both sides of a lot of stories and you get to meet some really great people. No special talents needed, otherwise I would never have made the cut!! :hi: Try it, it's fun!!!

17. I've been considering it for 2 years
It's shameful, letting others do all the work so I can enjoy the boards.

What hours do mods work and how strict is the commitment? What about when you can't be on-line? (Dr appointments or if weekends are out)

18. I was a Mod about a year ago
I think I did a pretty good job, especially if holding my tongue when it came to dealing with problem people is any measure of doing a good job. And I was moderating the Gun Forum, er, I mean Justice & Public Safety--give that a try sometime!

Anyway, I'd love to do it again, but I know I will be too busy until after the election. I'm working for a local candidate for state representative; and if she loses her primary, I'll try to work on the Governor's race instead.

23. From Skinner's post
With the campaign season heating up, we expect this to be a particularly difficult time to serve as a moderator. For this reason, we'll need to have a core of seasoned veterans to moderate. If you've served before, we hope you'll consider serving this term. Of course, we are always looking for dedicated new people as well, so if you've never served before, please sign up.

Please check your schedule for the next two months. DU is bigger and busier than ever and we're looking for dedicated people who have a little extra time on their hands. If you expect to be unavailable for an extended period of time during the next two months, please do not sign up this term.

Personally, I think you would make an excellent mod, especially during what promises to be a "fun" time here.

30. Let's see...
...I have a hot temper.

...I have a propensity toward sexual innuendo.

...Huh-huh. I said "In you end."

...I cannot abide inanity, unless it is my own.

...my own posts are often inane, and it is a testament to the mods' patience that more have not been deleted.

...I am not as patient as said mods.

...I wouldn't delete anything a lot of people want deleted, and I would delete some things out of nothing but spite.

I really, really, REALLY don't think I should be a mod. ;)

34. Not me. Not this time. But I wish I could.
Alas, I simply don't have the time any more. I barely have time to read much here anymore. :-(

I am quite glad I moderated back when I had the time to do so. Overall, it was very rewarding, and provided an excellent look into the inner workings of this place. :-)

Is this something you're considering?

:hi:

Besides, RAGBRAI is at the end of the month. I'll be on the road. :D

Hope all is well with you. :hi:
