I and my wife and a friend finally saw F/911 and it was no mean feat.
My wife has recently had a hip replacement during which the the femur (top leg bone) was fractured because of complications from other surgeries. So now she has a fractured leg to heal before physio can start for the hip. She can get around on crutches and a walker, but verryy slowwwly.
But the prospect of missing F/911 at the theatres was out. We had been waiting months to see this film and we're both big MM fans. My wife told her visiting nurse that we were going to see the film and she said, "Well, OK, but don't tell anyone that I said that, you're not supposed to be out of the house!"
So, my wife made an extra effort to make herself as ambulatory as possible, learning how to climb stairs, get in and out of the car, and get out in public as often as possible. And it paid off last night. We finished dinner and made the 50-minute trip to the AMC 24 multiplex in Ottawa. The people at AMC were fantastic, getting us a wheelchair, rushing us to the front of the line and even giving us tickets at the child's price!
The theater was about 3/4 full, very comfortable seats, and the special disabled section was very convenient.
The movie was quite an eye-opener. There were not any gasps of horror as I had expected, but rather laughter. After the first few scenes in which B* was getting prepped for some address, the audience laughed and laughed. Eventually, almost anytime he was on-screen, someone laughed. It was great.
My wife said that it was a bit of information overload, but we all agreed that it was MM's best work yet.
We're now encouraging ALL our conservative friends to see it.

1. You need to see it a second time |
|

make sure you pick it up on DVD later - it bears watching at least twice. There's just to much to process all at once. The first viewing left me with a feeling, but I un derstood more the second time.

2. I already knew about 90% of it |
|
But learning the rest of it AND seeing it up on the big screen was a religious experience for me!

3. I loved the "fool me once" scene at the end... |
|
just loved that! I wnet with my son who was on his 4th viewing and he warned me about some of the gorey scenes...I did not watch them, probably should have, but didn't. At my theater in NH, the audience didn't move when the film was over...people just sat there in silence.

Fooled me once really GOT me. We all cheered at that.
I'll be buying the DVD, too.

4. i didn't learn anything new |
|
but it's nice to see it all in one place. and i just adore sarcasm:)
now rent or buy 'uncovered: the truth about the war in iraq'... far more damning than f9/11 and all the speakers are bio'd in the first five minutes. it will really piss you off.
my b/f ordered a copy for us, only $10~

Yeah, these kind of films really need bios. My wife's friend kept whispering to me "Who's that?" about every ten minutes. I think the subtitles were cut off.

Robert Greenwald did Uncovered |
|
he's the one who just did "Outfoxed" about Fauzx news. He also did "Unprecedented" about the 2000 florida election.

8. I saw it with a Vietnam vet friend of mine. |
|
He was totally blown away! I already knew about 90% of the stuff, but he didn't know about most of it (he knew things weren't good, but he had no idea of the extent of what * has been doing). He's a very patriotic guy--loves his flag and his country--but he can't stand bush and what he's doing to us all. He can't wait to do some research to get further info on what he learned in the film.
