"Gore" - spot on (the debates with him and Farrell are the funniest things ever done on SNL, IMHO.) I seem to have heard that the Gore campaign was reviewing Hammond's debate to refine Gore's performance. :shrug:

"Sean Connery" on Jeopardy - hilarious.

"Clinton" - the switch between the smile and the "serious face" crack me up (along with the small thumbs up).

11. Sorry, I hate to speak ill of the dead

but I NEVER liked Phil Hartman. He always struck me as someone who always wanted to be anywhere but where he was right then and there. Hammond Cracked me up as the Big Dog. I agree with the previous poster who raved about his impressions.

I always thought he was the glue that held things together. No part too small, too big, too silly, too straight for him to play if that's what the sketch needed.

Over the top and intense (Sinatra), or the milquetoast dad, he could and would do it. He didn't need to be the sun in every sketch, but could be if needed. (The Sinatra group is legendarily funny.)

He is the most versatile and least ego driven performer SNL ever had. (Apologies to Tim Meadows, who's a close second in both regards. His standalone stuff, however, pales in comparison to Phil's best work.)

10. No Dan as Dick?

No Dan Akroyd as Nixon? Those were the funniest skits I had ever seen up to that point in my life. And the addition of Belushi as Kissinger just put the icing on the cake. "Harry, will you get down on your knees with me and pray?". Classic. Just classic.

Partially sentimental with my vote, but not by much. He was my favorite Clinton on SNL. I still laugh at the McDonald's skit where he uses fries as a metaphor. Then he stuffs his mouth! HAHAHA!!

Phil was immensely talented. I miss him on the Simpsons too.

Hammond's Clinton was trite and cliched, too smarmy - like a Republican's view of him. He was much better as Gore.

I will give Hartman props as Clinton though..I think Hartmans portrayal as the big dog was more sypathetic of the two and Hammonds was more meaner of Bill but Hammond as Bill as pure comic gold
