short and dirty
Rod Stewart & Ron Wood were part of the Jeff Beck Group for two albums, then that fell apart and they joined the Small Faces players Kenny Jones, Ronnie Lane and Ian McLagan in 1969.
Rod Stewart's first solo album was released in 1969 and the first Faces album came out in 1970. So (I guess) they were always a little schizophrenic; kind of like he was their lead singer, except when they were being his backing band. The Faces broke up in 1973 when Ronnie Lane left. By then Stewart had a pretty solid solo career.
In that period Stewart put out 5 Rod Stewart albums and the Faces put out 4 Faces albums.
