About That Dead Tiger
Look, I don't hunt anymore. I never really got into it all that much anyway so I just sort of quit. So, I'm not a hunter, but I know what those guys think about. So you gotta understand, if you are a hunter and you hear about that cop that shot the tiger in Los Angeles, well you think to yourself. "God dam, how's that for braggin' rights?" "How many guys do you think can say the shot a tiger in down-fuggin-town Los Angeles?"

Such is the mind of a hunter. Me too ......

1. What tiger in down-fuggin-town Los Angeles?
I heard yesterday about the escaped Florida tiger owned by an ex-Tarzan, but not a tiger in LA.

Got link? :)

3. I'm Sorry, OK then Make It Miami
I just caught it out of the corner of my eye on the TV in the other room. I thought the guy said Los Angeles, sorry about that. Just Substitute Miami, or Jackonsville, or Tampa, or somewhere. Doesn't really matter. You shoot a tiger downtown in any large US city and you got my respect. :~)

5. Um, okay then. It's the story I saw. Not Miami either. Loxahatchee.

I saw lots of exotic critters when I was growing up in Miami. I don't think I would have blinked at a tiger. "Mom, look what followed me home, can I keep it?"

By JILL BARTON, Associated Press Writer

LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. - A tiger that escaped from the home of a movie actor who once played Tarzan was shot and killed Tuesday after it lunged at a state wildlife officer who was trying to capture it.

At least two officers approached the tiger, and one was going to try to shoot it with a tranquilizer gun. But the tiger lunged at one officer, who had to shoot in self defense, said Jorge Pino, a spokesman with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

"Needless to say, the owner is very distraught. We're distraught," Pino said. "Our concern was to recover this tiger alive and well."

4. A Pet
Some idiot had it for a pet, if I heard it right, and it got away a day or two ago. They tried to trap it but I guess that didn't work out and an officer had to shoot it.

6. It Wasn't Exactly A Pet
He rescued over 50 tigers since the mid-60's from Circuses and irresponsible pet-owners for the zoos and had the fence and gate to keep "them" in and the other "them" out.

Mabye "Barney Fife" had more than one bullet this time.

7. There are more than 10,000 tigers kept as pets in backyards in the US
and I worry about them. When this one got away, I thought, OMG, it's starting...

9. And "He" Rescued Those He Could
Behind a fence with razor wire on top of his property line and an a strong, steel gate anchored in 3 feet or more of concrete.

Shit happens but he wasn't a fool and knew enough to keep only a few at a time on his property and under conditions that he thought would guareentee the safety of his neighbors.

Dosen't Dimbo try that with Drug Dealers and sexual/financial predators at minimum-security prisons now?

What can go wrong?

12. If "That" Hunter Was A Twerp
He must have used an AK-47 on Bambi, stuffed her into the trunk of his BMW and had to use a chainsaw to cut her out of his trunk.

13. I agree. Why did they not use a tranquilizer gun?
Edited on Tue Jul-13-04 06:07 PM by RebelOne
They knew what they were looking for, so why were they not equipped with tranquilizer guns? Some stupid cop wanted to play hero and so he could say he shot a tiger. Wonder if its head will be going on his wall. I hate hunters.

15. I still say, why were they not armed with tranquilizer guns.
When the tiger lunged, it could have been darted.

16. well, before the capture attempt, maybe
sedatives take some time to work. We can find out the time/kg of body mass by interviewing the Bush family, I suppose

18. But the tiger could still do serious harm
or even kill the man while the tranquilizer was taking effect. That is, if they got the dart in the animal in the first place.

17. Tranquilizer guns take time to work
Had a situation nearby with a mountain lion in a residential neighborhood. Animal control experts said the cops were right to shoot and kill the lion because tranquilizers can take 15 minutes to work and you have a pissed off wild animal that could go after children.
