We can't GET cable - or DSL - or anything!!! (save satellite via DirecTV - but I'm not ready to shell out $700 for the install/connection fee).

16. Oh, and MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FIREWALL!!!
The only downside to DSL is that you're now much more vulnerable to hackers and worms. If you don't already have one, make sure you install a firewall like ZoneAlarm on your PC to protect it.

29. Switch to a different firewall
like Sygate or Kerio and your speed will increase. I had ZA Pro and it sucked bandwidth like you wouldn't believe. Don't know why.

With my ISP, it would be $40 a month on top of the phone bill. Though I've heard it's cheaper through corporate shite Verizon. I'll stick with my wee provider and be frugal for a while more.

I never had any broadband connection until last November. I will never do dial-up again.
