Subject: Best TWO hit wonder band???
Text:
Has to be the Left Banke-

"Dont Walk Way Renee" & "Pretty Ballerina"

Actually, their two LPS are fantasitc & highly prized amongst music geeks (OF COURSE Dr Fate owns both on original vinyl!!!), but only 2 hits.

Who is the best 2 hit wonder band?

Name the band, and name the hits!!!

I'll also except "Few" hit wonders as well.

DISCUSS!

Doc

Their brief career is an interesting, sad story too- read about it here:

15. it's pretty harsh, lyrically speaking
but it's a pleasant tune.

I love absentmindedly singing along to lines like

Remember those who win the game
Lose the love they sought to gain
Indebentures of quality
And dubious integrity.
Their small town eyes will gape at you
in dull surprise when payment due
Exceeds accounts received
At seventeen.

17. Well, it was pretty popular in the mid-70's
I think it won a Grammy, too.

Quick trivia question for you, Doctor...can you name the smash hit late-60's movie for which Janis Ian, to her eternal regret, turned down the opportunity to write the soundtrack?

You are correct! The Graduate soundtrack , which rocketed Simon & Garfunkel to superstardom, was offered to Janis in 1967 based on the success of "Society's Child", but she turned it down and has lived in regret ever since.

Her web site, actually, lists a page called "Monumental Mistakes" (http://www.janisian.com/article-monumental_mistakes.html) where she lists all the films (including The Graduate and A Star is Born) and TV shows and commercials she turned down that would have made her oodles of cash. You get the sense she's half-kidding, but...turning down the Graduate! Oof!

She also describes the time Jimi Hendrix gave her some coke and she proceeded to pass out and freak him out.

...how may other "smash" late sixties movies are there w/ pop soundtracks?

I always do great on Jeopardy- it's all about the CLUES- not necesarily knowing the answer...

Looking forward to reading that link- sounds like fun...

30. Yeah, that probably gave it away
although these could be considered:

Alfie
To Sir With Love
Georgy Girl
Born Free
Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid

but The Graduate really blazed the trail for pop soundtracks.

you should read that page...it's hilarious. And very rare for a celebrity to air regrets in public!

I dont like most of those songs either- but I am torn by Baker Street- I cant decide if it is brilliant, Brian Wilson inspired pop, or just plain over-produced- if not the most over produced song EVER.

...both are okay tunes I suppose- at least some good parts.

I cant recall any other hits by them- although "Woodface" was acclaimed by critics(but then again, tons of really mediocre records got "good" write ups in corporate mags in the late 80's/early 90's)- no hits came from it...

Tone-Loc was a TRUE two hit wonder.

"Wild Thing"
"Funky Cold Medina"

Milli Vanilli (may not count) :P

"Girl You Know It's True" actually only made it to number two on the charts but it's the one I remember most.

The next three made it to number one on the charts but were they really hits?:

"Baby Don't Forget My Number,"
"Girl I'm Gonna Miss You,"
"Blame It on the Rain"

C&C: Things that make you go hmmm, and that "Everybody Dance" song

Technotronic: Pump up the Jam, Get Up

Arrested Development:

I know that Arrested Development had "Mr. Wendel," but it wasn't that big.
