1. It also happens to be my 37th wedding anniversary
An easy one to remember--the day they stormed the Bastille. C'est la guerre, c'est la amour. Or somethin' like that!

Happy Bastille Day, indeed!

2. In honor of Bastille Day, a modest proposal
let's restore the right to vote to all felons ... there is no justification for stripping any citizen, even evil citizens, from their right to participate in the democratic process ...

punishment should fit the crime ... but stripping away the right to vote is just plain wrong ...

3. French Role in Deposing Aristide
Freedom-wise, the French have done nothing to brag about lately. July 14th may be their day of Independence, but the French government participated in the overthrow of the duly-elected president of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

4. The Bastille was the Berlin Wall of its time
The Bastille was used as a political prison for alleged enemies of the King. A hated symbol of tyranny, it was destroyed by the citizens of Paris on July 14, 1789.

5. Yes, congratulations to France!
O'Reilly may have distributed 30,000 "Boycott France" stickers, but I love so many things French. I love France.
