2. Where are you?
Mrs. Squeech and I are taking our summer vacation in Brazil. We're visiting Sao Paolo, Rio, Vitoria (ES), Belo Horizonte and some of the historical towns of Minas, and Recife. Leaving Saturday for three weeks (assuming they let us on the airplane).

Yeah, Lula rocks!

5. You will have a great time!
I've lived in Recife, Sao Paulo and Rio. Recife, the Venice of Brasil, was the first place in Brazil I lived and holds a dear space in my heart. Go to Olinda if you have the chance...it's a few miles north of Recife. It was designated by UNESCO as a world heritage city about 20 years ago so many of the old colonial houses are protected. As an aside, there is nothing like carnaval in Olinda.

You'll love Rio! I have a house in Rio and get down there as often as possible. I'm entertaining the idea of moving there if * steals the election again.

Enjoy your trip and take lots of pictures!!

8. It's no alto da Glória, almost in Santa Teresa.
Small house, great neighborhood. It needs to be renovated and I need to get down there soon to get the project started.

Where are you in Rio?

13. My house isn't in Rio
I've got this teeny little condo in Vitoria.

The reason Mrs. Squeech got interested in Brazil is, her previous husband was a Brazilian. Then I got interested. (How many people do you know who not only like their spouse's ex, but his/her family? His sister is especially cool, and she lives in Vitoria with her husband and two kids-- the rest of the extended family lives in Minas-- so that's our connection to Vitoria. The ex himself has a condo in Rio and has offered us the keys for our couple days there.)

7. It most certainly seems it will. For one thing...
...I had an impromptu programming test at the interview (first time it happened in my life). I had to code a string-reversal program in C, and the guy said it was the best code he'd ever seen for that.
