I have to admit, I rented it for the picture of Eliza Dushku on the cover. 'Fess up! So did you. :D
But man, that was really scary! Yikes.
A pretty standard dumb slasher flick, but really very scary!
It's about these college kids who get lost in the mountains of West Virginia, being chased by mass-murdering inbred monsters, who pick them off one by one.
I imagine it hasn't been approved by the tourist bureau of West Virginia, but I could be wrong. :P

I saw it in the theatre. I hadn't planned on seeing it at all but friends kept telling me how "suprised" they were by it. I went to see it one weekend and it scared the shit out of me. I was gripping the arms of my seat during the sequence where they were all in the cabin and each of them discovered something that made them realize they had to get the hell out of there. Great movie.

3. I think I rent the DVD this weekend... |
|
...and check out the special features.
The suspense was unbearable. I don't think I blinked at all during that sequence--at least it felt that way. I love the fact that the two attractive leads didn't start a romantic relationship and I also like that no one was cracking wise and making jokes during their ordeal. Too many horror movies try to be scary and funny at the same time and they end up failing on both counts. I loved the straightforwardness of "Wrong Turn".

I didn't think about these points but you're absolutely right. The scary/funny stuff can really drive me bonkers, too -- and a romantic relationship in all that would have been totally ridiculous. :P

...although possibly offensive to West Virginia? Before we meet the actual mutant freaks, the filmmakers sort of hinted at them through the two other "West Virginians" that we see earlier. First, there was the truck driver who was very hostile to the "city slicker", then we move "down" a bit and meet the dirty, toothless, PeptoBismol-drinking guy, and then the farther into the woods you go...
