Lifestyle Changes After Supersize Me
After starting my job a year ago, I gained at least 12 pounds to 174 lbs, and really indulged in some bad health habits. Then I saw Supersize Me, and that was more effective than any book.

I did the following:

- No more snacking during the day, since most snacks are crap
- No more gorging myself during the buffet lunches--what's the point of that
- No more getting take out, or eating out, unless when I'm with friends. If I'm alone, I cook
- No more eating fast food. Pretty much ever, though I might have a bit every 2 months or so
- Ramp up workouts to 3 times a week--mostly lifting, but now try running 1 mile one the treadmill twice a week
- No keeping food around the apt that doesn't need to be prepared to be eaten
- No fruit juices or non-diet sodas
- NEVER EAT DINNER AT THE OFFICE. I always work late, and that was a bad habit, especially since they'll pay for dinner if you're there late at night.

These are small changes, but it's amazing how using common sense and cutting out the obvious negatives--don't stuff yourself, don't go to Taco Bell--can make the gut "magically" start to disappear. And as I learn to cook I realize I love it. It's fascinating.

What's the point of this? Not much; not dramatic--I was going from so-so to good, but that movie really gave me a jolt in the right direction. And it's done the same for a number of friends.

Anyone else?

2. Good call. I'd make an exception for that, if it weren't a habit

i think even the worst of them are better than mickeys. but a 12", extra cheese, mayo, chips, pretty soon you are up there. all the advertised low fat ones are 6", no cheese.
i like subway.

3. Haven't seen the movie but I am
trying to do a lot of the same things you are. These are common sense things that don't require a lot of sacrifice and they can save you money too. Congratulations. Sounds like you are doing great.

4. Not just that--you can live NORMALLY
You don't have to avoid getting drunk now and then, or have a huge desert if you go to a great place, etc. etc.

The key is to establish good basic habits. More important, to avoid obviously bad ones!

I really recommend the movie if you want some motivation, by the way!

10. Well, one of the reasons I have not seen it is
because I don't eat fast food, except once in a very great while. My problem is with snack foods and mindless eating, like when I am bored. Have you read the book "Fast Food Nation?" That is a real eye opener too. I probably will see the movie as I am curious.
