34. John Cornyn's extremely bizarre forehead and love of box turtles.

I am proud to say I voted against him in 2002 in my first act as a voting age citizen. He was a favorite judge of the oil companies, corrupt, and absolutely moronic. He also loves the idea of marrying box turtles.

I kept hearing about turtles today and, being distracted and all, I had no fucking clue what they were talking about. It's more proof that, yes, truth is stranger than fiction.

I must say, that box turtle is quite handsome, though. He has all the qualities I'm looking for in a man. I wonder if he is willing to vacuum?

15. It became extremely popular in the late 20th century
To claim to be a descendant of Native Americans. Which is quite humorous, considering how hard the US tried to eradicate any semblance of native culture and society. There exists in America today a virtual army of Caucasians who claim some kind of Indian heritage. However, if you are interested, you would have to get your claim certified by a tribe or nation, and this is not done without proof of your ancestry. So good luck with that.

19. Wow thank you
you were quite helpful!

I just got back from an extensive trip of the American West and I was so MOVED by the Native American philosophy of life, spirituality, approach to living, the earth, etc.

And I know my great-grandmother had Comanche blood, I just have to find out how to verify this. It was a well-known thing in the family. *Her* mother was full-blooded. Wonder how I get that verified?

Anyway, thanks.

46. Sunspots reaching 1,000-year high
A new analysis shows that the Sun is more active now than it has been at anytime in the previous 1,000 years.
Scientists based at the Institute for Astronomy in Zurich used ice cores from Greenland to construct a picture of our star's activity in the past.

They say that over the last century the number of sunspots rose at the same time that the Earth's climate became steadily warmer.

This trend is being amplified by gases from fossil fuel burning, they argue.

snip

But the most striking feature, he says, is that looking at the past 1,150 years the Sun has never been as active as it has been during the past 60 years.

Over the past few hundred years, there has been a steady increase in the numbers of sunspots, a trend that has accelerated in the past century, just at the time when the Earth has been getting warmer.

The data suggests that changing solar activity is influencing in some way the global climate causing the world to get warmer.

Over the past 20 years, however, the number of sunspots has remained roughly constant, yet the average temperature of the Earth has continued to increase.

This is put down to a human-produced greenhouse effect caused by the combustion of fossil fuels.

This latest analysis shows that the Sun has had a considerable indirect influence on the global climate in the past, causing the Earth to warm or chill, and that mankind is amplifying the Sun's latest attempt to warm the Earth.
