Red Sox Fans: Nomar For Randy Johnson?!? Whadda Ya All Think?
reports are that Nomar may go to the White Sox, who would send some prospects down to AZ. In exchange, Randy Johnson comes to Fenway.

so, willing to give up Nomah for The Big Unit?

1. If I'm Skippy Epstein, I make this deal yesterday.
1. The Yankees don't get Johnson.
2. Nomah is starting to lose the fans, and looks like he needs a change of scenery.
3. You get Randy Freaking Johnson for a guy who was going to leave anyway.

Makes sense to me. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

5. Coming from a Yankees fan: that's one scary trade.
If the Sox brass have any brains, they'll pull the trigger. Right now. Before George steps in. Sorry, but Nomah is one of the most overrated players in baseball. What has he ever done besides get hurt? People call Jeter overrated, but he's got the rings. The Sox could ride the Pedro/Johnson combo right to the Series the way Arizona did with Johnson/Schilling a few years ago. That trade is a no-brainer.

Hope they don't pull it off .

10. I've heard that the Sox might Deal Lowe.
Maybe exchange him for another disappointing starter (Kevin Millwood, maybe). Maybe each team will feel the change of scenery will help, and Lowe could be reunited with Kerrigan, his old coach.

But then, I hear the Cardinals might trade Matt Morris for Millwood (mistake!).

12. We should get on that! Lowe for Morris!
Oh hell yeah!! And then three-way Nomar to the Cubs, Red Sox and Cubs prospects to Arizona, and Randy Johnson to Boston. Hell yeah that works!

15. If the Cards trade Morris for Lowe, I'm driving to St. Louis and beating
someone.

Morris is younger, and has a future. Lowe is too big of a danger when his head isn't right, and now his head is NOT right.

11. Considering the shape of our starting pitching now? Yes.
Mussina, Brown, and I don't know who is behind them. In a short series, we'd be toast. Of course, never count ol' George, especially if the Sox are involved. Wouldn't be the first time he robbed the gold from right under your noses :D.

9. OH hell yeah I make that trade
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 07:28 AM by sirjwtheblack
Nomar's playoff batting average is what? .163? He fucking sucks in the playoffs. Plus he's gonna leave. Why not lock up by FAR the best rotation in baseball?

Edit: Oh yeah, and if you're in a 7 game series, you'd potentially face Schilling twice, Randy twice, and Pedro twice. Assuming the other team beats either Lowe or Wakefield, both of whom have very favorable postseason stats, where exactly do you see 3 other losses coming from?

17. Eh he's isn't so great at the "short throws"
but then again trying to score from first will be next to impossible.

19. Dave Kingman-esque
If he makes contact............ :wow:

OF course you have to consider the size of that strike zone.

22. BAD DEAL
Nomar is still one of the top players in the game. He is rehabbing more slowly than we hoped, but he is worth more to the Sox than Randy Johnson. I never want to lose the future of a team. The Sox have made strides to undo the damage they did to the Nomar relationship this past offseason. A powerhitting SS with the leadership of Nomar is rare. He is a better player than Jeter or Tejada. While Randy Johnson is a great pitcher, power pitchers usually fall apart quickly once the arm starts to go. Clemens and Ryan are the exception and not the rule. I don;t believe Randy Johnson is going to last 4-5 more years. I'd rather keep Nomar and make a run at 4-5 championships then get Randy for 1 1/2 years and try to make a run at just one. The Yankees will overpay for Johnson and lose more of their future. Let them do it.
