My "Outfoxed" video arrived broken!!!
I am SO sad!

The front part of the plastic case - the part that flips up when you insert it into the VCR - is crunched.

Will it work if I just remove that whole flipper part and insert it without it, or does that part have to be there for the VCR to play it?

CRAP! I've written to them, but how on earth will I get a copy before my little party on Sunday???????

3. That's a good idea, Rock,
I'll call around to see if someone can do it in time. After paying the extra $10.00 to have it here in time for my party, I will be really bummed out if I can't show it.

I wonder if I had a Freeper UPS driver who stomps on all packages that he doesn't like??? It WAS a different driver today... :tinfoilhat:

23. Duplicated with no generational loss...
Might be cheaper to get the tape swapped directly...

17. OK, I stuffed it in
and it started to run, but I have to leave. So when I get home, I'm going to hook my VCR's together so I can make a copy as I watch it. That way if it gets demolished on rewind or something, I'll at least have a crappy copy.

Keeping my fingers crossed until I see "The End."

6. You should be able to take a "flipper door" off another cassette...
and replace the broken one. There are just pegs holding it onto the cassette. You may have to wiggle it around a bit, but it is possible.

7. I have done that before and it works
The worse thing to do it pop it into the video recorder and the piece breaks off inside and gets stuck.

Been there and done that.

8. Yeah, taking the flipper door off sounds good
I have played around with the innards of VCRs before. The little arm that comes up to lift the flipper door will just have no door to flip open. Tell me how you like the movie :bounce:

10. I'll second this
the flipper door is there only to protect the tape. Any door from any old tape should work (sometimes the tabs are differently shaped but you should be able to find one somewhere that'll fit)

18. I know, I know...
actually, we do have my son's DVD player here while he finishes college, but it must be dirty or something, because the last few times we've used it, the DVD's skip and jump around.

Is there a way to clean it?

15. Just curious - how was it packed?
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 02:48 PM by KurtNYC
Was the tape in the standard retail/rental style box? or was it loose in a padded envelope?

I sell on Ebay and have shipped 100+ CDs and other media through the mail and have had nothing broken so far. Seems unusual if it is properly packed. If someone wanted to mess it up they would only have to wave a magnet near it - busting the flap won't make it unplayable.

And that flap is on there strictly to protect the tape when it is not in the machine. I agree with earlier poster who said remove it completely if you go that route.

20. The tape was in the tagboard box
or sleeve or whatever you call it, and just put into a padded envelope. I guess I wouldn't have shipped without a hard plastic case or one of those corrugated boxes made for videos, but I know those are expensive.

21. Should have been hard plastic case
I mail my CDs in the case which is like what you buy a DVD in - no envelope, no nothing and all have been fine. My cases cost me 28-cents each and thats a lot cheaper than padded envelopes with whatever inside.

Btw, I saw the doc at the New School on Tuesday night. It was packed and luckily they opened a room for overflow. They packed that also. As a former Fox employee I had great interest. I will be curious to hear others reactions.

Hope you get your tape working without much more hassle.

22. Update and thanks to Greenwald Productions
I sent an email to the address given on the Outfoxed website as soon as I opened the envelope and discovered the broken tape. I got home this afternoon to a message from Robert Greenwald's company (the director/producer of the film), and they are FedEx'ing me a new tape.

Can't beat that for customer service and fast response! :D

OK, if Robert himself would personally deliver the tape to my door - that would be cool...
