Quiz: Are you pretentious?
Pretentious? Me? Never!

Totally unpretentious? Or pretentiously unpretentious like me and:

Malcolm in the middle

You enjoy the finer things in life, but this does not mean you're pretentious. Because you're able to balance your appreciation of fine food, art and literature with your preference for pop music and pop tarts, you're just as likely to meet a friend for coffee and discuss the latest episode of "Malcolm in the Middle" as you are to spend a night at the ballet.

Although you take pride in your appearance, your balanced approach to life allows you to enjoy the company of those who don't. By emphasizing substance over what appears on the surface, you've been able to surround yourself with a diverse group of friends.

You see yourself as somebody who knows exactly what you like and you avoid trends. Carefully weighing your "yin" against your "yang," you take great pains to balance all aspects of your life. The only thing you insist on is that others share your open-minded attitudes.

1. Couldn't get through it.
There was no acceptable music choice, my ideal pet is "none," and it went downhill from there. I couldn't come up with a reasonably honest answer to most of them.

Pomp in select circumstances

You are pretentious. Although you wouldn't feel entirely comfortable sipping cognac and discussing Fellini with Frasier and Niles Crane, you think of yourself as somebody who enjoys the finer things in life. You get a great deal of pleasure out of fine dining and beautiful clothes, but you can't hide the fact that you're as interested in the label on the outside of the wine you're drinking as you are in the actual taste.

Everything you do—and everybody that you choose to hang out with—has been carefully selected in order to cultivate a certain image. You see yourself as a person of "taste" and you take great care to ensure that your friends see you the same way.

Although you secretly detest most of the cultural events that your friends convince you to go to—your favorite part of a night at the opera is when the curtains come together and everybody applauds—you are too vain to admit that you'd much rather spend your time sitting at home watching "Survivor."

Sadly, your pretension prevents you from sharing things like your love of Diet Coke and Ally McBeal with your friends, so you end up doing the things you most enjoy by yourself. Tell your friends that you've cancelled the chalet in the Laurentians, and ask them if they'd like to join you on your road trip to Saskatoon.

Actually, I see it as more enjoying both. I liked Ally McBeal when it was on and had no trouble saying so.
