So, does anyone use a French coffee press?

Or should I say a "Freedom" press? My drip coffeemaker finally gave way and I'm thinking about getting a French press which is supposed to make excellent coffee...but is it too much of a hassle first thing in the morning to go stumbling around operating it? Cheers!

1. It would be a bit of a hassle first thing in the morning.
You have to boil the water, pour it in, and let it steep for 6 minutes or so. So it does take a while. To be honest, I like it, but I don't love it. It's pretty good, but the main reason I got one was because it was said to be the final word in coffee making. I don't know that I would call it the final word, but it's good. Maybe save it for your second cup? :donut:

3. best "home" coffeemaker ever!
short of spending $1500 for a good 110 volt espresso machine

http://www.capresso.com/prod_makers_lux.html

just add water the night before, it has a timer that grinds the beans, flips them over and brews a perfect pot every time. Unlike some other "grinder/brewer" combos it is clean and easy to use

take it from me, I sell espresso for a living and am a total coffee snob

6. i owned one exclusively until i upgraded to my Saeco espresso
maker, I have recommended the Capresso to lots of folks, and everybody loves it

if you need good coffee let me know, or use a local roaster and only buy enough beans for a week to 10 days max. Fresh roasted beans ground minutes before brewing will make a world of difference

5. If you like strong coffee like me and very disappointed by
automatic coffee makers I suggest you but a stovetop expresso maker. It is no more hassle than the standard automatic coffee makers and it really makes good coffee. The problem I had with the French press that the coffee cools too quickly and I didn't like the flavour.

8. I bought a small one by Bodum to go camping ... I love it
I think I have the brand name right. It was discounted at Caribou Coffee. I had them coarse grind some La Minita/Peaberry for the trip. Those mountain sunrises were what's life's all about on that trip.

12. me too and I love mine
my so quit drinking coffee, so I just buy really good beans and grind em and pour water in the press. It is easy and doesn't take that long.

10. I use a "Freedom" Press.
I'll never go back to a coffee machine. However, if you do decide to use a French Press, you should consider getting a hot water dispenser.

I have a Zojirushi, and I love it.
