I bought it last weekend. But I've been lazy about putting stuff in the freezer this week. Do you think it's still good?
Should I bother freezing it or just chuck it?

1. It's probably ok, as long as it has been refrigerated. |
|
but smell it first. If in doubt, throw it out.

3. If it doesn't smell funky -- |
|
cook it... just make sure you cook it well to eliminate anything potentially bad...

4. It will still be good just rinse it with water and pat dry since bacteria |
|
forms on the surface. Once you cook all the bacteria will be killed.

5. Was it previously frozen, or did you buy it fresh? |
|
Also, what color is it? Is it a rusty red color, or is it a nasty brown?
Give it a sniff, too. Good meat shouldn't smell bad.
Either way, I wouldn't freeze it at this point. If it looks and smells OK, either cook it or toss it tomorrow.

I think what I'll do is go ahead and rinse it really well, then cook it tonight. That way I can have it for sandwiches to munch on.

10. Bad meat smells fishy---that's how you'll know. Most meat has been |
|
previously frozen and thawed several times, which is why it doesn't last as long in the freezer as if you had put a fresh piece in the freezer YOURSELF for the very first time (where it would last for a long, long, LONG, LONG time).

If a piece fo fish smells like a t-bone steak, throw it out. There's something wrong.
