Name your most unusual position |
|
and I don't mean THAT kind!
No I mean the position on some social, political, fiscal issue that is seen as the most strange/different by the people around you.
The issue you are MOST in the minority in, and I don't mean here, but in real life.

My most way-out position on an issue? These days, I think it's that I still oppose the invasions and occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq -- puppet gummints not withstanding.
Did I mention that I am a cynic?

either my legs or underarms. I stopped shaving over 30 ago, and the reasons I stopped are even more true today. Corporations tell us what we have to do to be beautiful or normal. Screw it. Sometime in the past razor blade companies convinced women in the U.S. that they weren't right if they didn't shave. The companies doubled their sales. Now I'm hearing about guys that shave their bodies. Yuck!
I truly believe that all the advertising in this country has made people sheep. I say be different, don't buy or be what companies tell you to be because all they want is MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.
I expect 99.9% of people reading this think not shaving is horrid. BUT think about what you buy because the advertisements tell that you have to have it to be cool, normal, etc?

and I have seriously considered throwing away the razors, too. But I have to admit I love the smooth feel of it!
The place I draw the line is that I know a lot of women shave their nether-regions on a regular basis. Sorry, huh-uh, no way. Been there, done that, it was HELL a couple of days later, never doing it AGAIN!

I am reminded a statement by Malcom X (to paraphase) when he was speaking to a crowd - who taught you your lips are "big", who taught you that you have "funny" hair?
Pretty amazing what a concerted/deliberate "marketing" effort can do to people who are actively thinking for themselves, but instead are letting themselves and their minds be spoonfed garbage from the airwaves.
Good for you and the conviction to stand behind your position.

about a boy who discovered this family who didn't watch TV and he asked "how do they know what to like and not like, how to be and what to be?"
Very profound and telling, I thought.

I will say this, it's amazing how much I have changed personally since I significantly cut back on my television watching and started to read a lot more (not necessarily books mind you, but periodicals too, and information on the net). TV is so fucking biased and NON-SUBSTANTIVE that it's amazing to me more people dont turn that crap off.

|
and that's a lot. I will watch the odd movie on DVD and I did see the movie Anchorman in the theater today, but 100% of my news is gathered from print sources and the net.

We had our first son circumcised but after reading some info on the subject and becoming more informed, #2 son is completely intact. I wish I had learned sooner...

Congrats on that decision. It bothers me that American parents aren't given complete information on that decision and in many cases are pressured to go the circ route without enough research.
It is my fervent hope that someday soon we will be like the UK and say "ok you know what? Doing that really accomplishes nothing and actually causes more harm than good, let's stop doing it". They found out nothing horrible happens so now they are a non-circing nation.
