Its doesn't look like a truck, isn't very sporty, but it is a van.

We can't afford a "luxury" car and a sedan is two small for five people, which is two adults, two almost adults, and a six year old. Also we can't afford two separate cars, so it's either the SUV or we have to take the bus.

Hauling your 6-year old to ballet class is not one of them.

I like cars much better. If I ever needed to haul stuff I would get a truck.

I also live upstate NY. The kids have cars and the winter before last we had over a hundred inches of snow. We bowed in awe to the mighty SUV that pulled them out of snow drifts and mud and got them off to class in the snow. I also have two dogs and garden. We love him in winter. The cars that have the clearance and AWD don't get much better mileage but the hybid Highlander from Toyota is due out in February and I'm thinking of getting on the list for one.

car...and is much safer....
The gas mileage is so-so....we only use it to go to the mountains....otherwise our other cars are just that - cars...Never will buy an SUV...nope....
Edit: Okay - maybe it there was a Hybrid SUV or Hydrogen Fuel or other "alternative" powered SUV...then we would.....

I have a 2000 Ford 4x4 extended cab pickup though. I was looking at an Expedition when I bought the pickup, but I just couldn't do it. I haul a lot of greasy, dirty and big stuff around and like the pickup box better. I believe the two are pretty much the same under the skin, but the truck has a beefier suspension as far as I could tell.
I've always been a pickup guy anyway.

I use it for freeway driving because a few years back I was almost killed by a hit and run driver on the freeway. I drive a Chevy Corsica for everything but the freeway. The Chevy can go and go and go on a single tank of gas the Range Rover is an environmental disaster, that's why I hardly ever take it out. :-(

I own a 2003 Toyota RAV4. It actually gets very respectable gas mileage. ~28 MPG highway. Which was the main reason why I considered it in the first place.

up here in alaska you either own a subaru or an SUV or a truck. we went for the SUV. i owned a subaru until it was totalled in an accident, it was OK in the winter, but the SUV is totally superior driving around in 2 feet of ice and snow. i can drive around with a good degree of control while others around me slip and slide.

like hydrogen combustion. Then I would love to have a huge monster I could live in, like an RV or tricked-out van. I wish I had a hemp oil bus like Woody. :smoke:
