Do any of you use alternative energy sources for your home? |
|
We got hooked up on Green Mountain Energy about three months ago and couldn't be happier. I haven't really noticed a difference in our bill, no interruption in service and it's 100% wind power. Cool!
According to my best estimates, we are saving the environment 11,000 pounds of carbon monoxide a YEAR by using this kind of energy.
I don't know anyone else around here using it, though. Why not, I wonder? They use the same transmission equipment, it's just that the source of my energy are those big funky looking windmills in West Texas, rather than the coal-burning plant down the road.

3. Tried to get Green Mountain in Texas, but TXU gave them a bogus meter |
|
number, and then stopped sending me a bill for a few months, then wanted a thousand dollars. All the while I was getting bills for $.00 from GreenMountain. This never got sorted out and TXU were dicks about it. I actually moved before I could get Green Mountain switched over.
That's how they were fighting the deregulated wind power in Texas.
How enronesque.

5. Can't - they pulled out of the California Market two months ago.... |
|
They claim it has to do with the "regulation" of the market here....sounds dicey to me, I never really bought that argument...
I wish I could find it, but there was some interesting info I had seen about Green Mountain which was far from favorable and showed some of their business links that showed it being far from free and clear of polluters etc.
The reality is you are getting the power off the same grid everyone else does, they just happen to pump their electricity into it from their sources and your giving your money to them, but like I said, you should do some more investigating into their "claims"....

in case of emergencies.
Sadly that's about it.
I don't own my house, tho. If I did it would be a different story

8. Alternate energy sources? |
|
Why yes...
Yes I do...
I lie on the couch and my wife cleans and brings me beer...
The earth seems quite happy with this arrangement...it's spinning quite nicely.

..and it makes energy for me. I especially like to burn the neighbors.
Good thing the neighbors are made out of kindling.
