Who has DishTV (sic?) and what do you think of it? |
|
I'm making the switch from DirecTV to Dish.
Curious what the pros and cons are.
Thanks in advance

1. I'm satisfied with the service |
|
I will probably dump HBO and Cinemax and pick up Starz instead. Plus, Dennis Miller doesn't advertise for them!

2. i`ve had dish for over four years |
|
and it keeps getting better..i have the cheap recorder and just had the super dish installed for free-hdtv ready and i get "local" tv..the best thing about dish has been their customer service-these people are the best..it may take time to get thru to them but everytime i have a problem or question they have the answer..just had my bill delayed a week cause of no money-no problem. they have told me of special offers ,programming and even threw in some stations i should not have recieved..give them a call and see what they can offer you ..plus there`s link tv and freespeach tv..and air america soon...but the only thing i can think of is that their recorders are not the easiest to use and i guess they aren`t as good as directs...

I have had it for a few years now and I like it. The costs have only gone up $1 over that time. The public interest stations like LINK and FreeSpeech TV are great. I have the first tier and it is still nice that they will occassionally add a new station every now and then.

4. FSTV is the first plus |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 01:22 AM by bumbler
(and LinkTV, altho that is available elsewhere)
Price a second.
Sirius music like Folktown (or your preferred genre) are another plus. (edit: this is on the top 120 option)
Be sure to get at least one PVR receiver since the ability to record and/or replay/pause while viewing are very helpful.

5. We had both Dish and DirecTV and went back to cable |
|
Mainly for the internet service, which completely kicks ass, but also because you have to pay for your own equipment and maintenance, which can run into some real cash when you're talking about having to replace those receiving doojies (LNBs?) on the dish once a year or so. And of course there's the issue of losing signal in bad weather.

6. I never had to pay a dime for equipment repairs |
|
and never ran into any weather problems. A few times (airplane maybe) it has paused briefly to reacquire the signal, but the prior cable service was occasionally out for several hours or a day. I'm happy.

7. I Like It, The Service People Are MUCH NICER... |
|
And FSTV is great. I also switched from Direct, I just didn't want to be writing any checks to Murdoch! It bugged me when he took over Direct, that's why I switched.
They didn't make me pay for any equipment like Direct did.

9. It's OK until it rains. Then I lose the signal. |
|
But otherwise, I'm satisfied with it.

10. I gotta have my Sunday Ticket!!! |
|
I'm paying $44 for DirectV's choice +... that gets me around 110 + the Discovery channels + my local channels + their Tivo. Sunday ticket is pre-paid at the renewal rates..I don't even count that...that's "special" - the real reason I'm keeping my dish.
...shit - I just found out (re-remembered?) I get the OLN channel - been watching the Tour...totally forgot about the 600's....there a couple other good ones there - the Nascar racing channel....Sunshine sports...a few others.
Fuck the movie channels...I had them all for awhile...never watched them much.
My neighbor buys all the latest movie DVD's and lets me copy them. Why pay?

12. We've had Dish for a couple of years. |

Cable here sucks, antenna reception's a pathetic practical joke. Dish customer service has been outstanding, both locally and at the national level. They just started providing music feeds from Sirius, which is great because radio sucks here too.
