20. Excellent! I got mine in chemistry. |

Though my specific field of expertise is really better defined as analytical biochemistry.

my specific field is polymers! More on the characterization and structure-property relations than the chemistry side.

22. What kind of polymers? |
|
I'm mostly involved in protein analysis and natural product isolation and characterization: HPLC, CE, mass spec.

23. Mostly "high performance" polymers |
|
like polyimides and polymer-inorganic composites. Most of my characterization came from FTIR,NMR, DMA, and SEM. I used some other stuff to.
I will be switching the focus of my research to some different polymers for the next year or two.

40. I'm interested in a similar field |
|
Something biochemistry-related - the chemical processes involved in life have been interesting to me since the fourth grade.
Where did you go for undergrad and grad? I'm interested in University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (or maybe University of Chicago) for undergrad and grad, especially because Urbana-Champaign has an excellent engineering school and it would be easier to fall back onto some sort of chemical engineering (my other personal choice) field that way.

. . .i have three masters degrees. Never had the patience to go to Ph.D. in any of them. Always wanted to move onto the next thing. But, i have taught classes in all three of my fields.
My first is in Quantum Chemistry. Second is it Statistical Mechanics. Third is in Economics.

I hope they didn't want extensive corrections. But, most important -- you're DONE! Eventually the trauma of the defense will recede into the background ... I remember finally staggering out into the hall after the committee passed me, to be greeted by ... nobody. (It was the beginning of the holidays, and all the other grads were running to the airport to catch their flights out of here!)
Hope your post-defense celebration was more riotous than mine (solo dinner at a local greasy spoon ... then came home to find that my landlady's cat had barfed on my living room carpet). Better the cat than me, I guess ...
p.s. you will feel REALLY GOOD when you submit your final copies to Grad Studies.
