500 Posts and I'm Changing My Avatar
The Celtic cross has gone on hiatus. I think I'll leave the union avatar in place at least until the elections and - in the meantime - search for ways to get out the union vote for Kerry/Edwards.

1. Seeing your new avatar I was wondering if you have heard of
Tom Franks's new book "What's Wrong with Kansas"?

2. Yes, I Have
I understand that he makes mention of a fundamental mistake by the Democratic Party in the '60s and '70s: turning their backs on the working-class in favor of courting new voters from among blocs such as college students and environmentalists, leaving themselves open to charges from the RW of 'liberal elitism.'

3. I'd say that is a very good summary. He is also very
critical of the Dems not addressing class divisions or the negative impact of the Free Market and also very critical of Dems cozying up to Big Business at the expense of the little guy.

I was amazed to learn that Kansas was once a hotbed of radicialism and that the title was lifted from a 1896 editorial that railed against Populists who it seems raised hell in Kansas back then.

As I am just bowled over by Frank, I like to recommend him to people who IMHO would likely find his point of view interesting. I have also discovered his magazine The Baffler which is also definitely worth eyeballing.
