Poll question: Besides Dogs & Cats, What Is Your Favorite Type Of Pet?
I never had a dog or a cat, but had plenty of "second tier" pets, such as turtles, fish and hampsters.

What's your favorite type of 'other' pet?

22. It's true. I even made a hat for him.
The hat was the cap off an acorn, so I called him "Mongol Person."

Then one day he was a pet raisin, and after a while, he was just an acorn cap. It was a sad day.

12. Oh, and they're certainly not "second pets."
Logos and Olive require far more attention than any cat; and they're smarter than any dog I've met.

I don't know if they are "pets." They are family members, 3rd and 4th generation.

I also love my hens, who keep the yard free of insects and me supplied with eggs. They are quiet (until they've laid an egg!), charming, and not demanding.

As for the rest, I'll admire them in the wild. I don't need to keep them in cages to appreciate them. I share space peacefully with many critters, without domesticating them.

17. I saw "insects" listed.
I think they're cool and all, but what types of insects do people usually keep as pets? I know some people keep exotic non-pest cockroaches as pets. Are there any others?

34. I think they're against the law to own in many states now
Since they're considered "wildlife" and a carrier of rabies and intestinal parasites. They're still legal in some states, and a few states you can get a permit.

They're amazingly intelligent, but very stubborn little things. They're more like spoiled children than pets. Perhaps I should say spoiled little vindictive devils. They're not really a domesticated animal at all.
