HBO's Angels in America.... |
|
nominated this week for 21 Emmy's. It deserves to win all of them.
The DVD is coming out on September 14th. If you haven't seen it, check HBO or get the DVD when it comes out. Truly amazing performances by Mary-Louise Parker, Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson, Jeffrey Wright, Ben Schenkman...
My bf and I started watching it late at night... couldn't tear ourselves away until we'd watched all 6 hours.

2. I must confess... I was bored silly. |

Couldn't even get through the first one.
It must be me ... it's not getting all these nominations for nothing.

5. Then you didn't get to the point when the angel appears... |

It really takes off then!!
I found this a fascinating study of people growing, changing and, also falling. Some freed and others trapped in their prejudices. All this while revealing a seedier stream of American politics stretching from the McCarthy era to today. It also shows the start of AIDS and the politics of that from the Reagan era. AIA has much relevance to today's politics.
A great show, although first hour or two is a little slow as it has a lot of threads to set up that all tie together brilliantly in the end.

it was fantastic. Streep was great, as usual. Pacino plays wicked like no one else.
but my favorite was Jeffrey Wright as Belize. he is articulate and kind. i'll stop there before i start to gush like a teenager.

I agree. I saw the play in SF years ago, and it was amazing theater, but I was doubtful it could translate well to TV. I was wrong.

6. Loved it, but those last 10 minutes... |

It was a bit too precious: Streep's character is transformed into a Manhattanite (complete with trendy wardrobe); the lead character gazing into the camera and telling us that we're special, every last one of us.
Excepting that denouement, Angels In America was a fantastic and uplifting program.
