1. No, but I think they should have a show where cameras follow
you around while you clean out your closets. Thay could call it "This Old Blouse." :-)

2. Our question also.
I don't like the New, This Old House as much. It's not just Steve leaving but the new shows don't impart as much practical knowledge as the old shows. This Old House has gone the way of much in the media-moving to glitz and away from reality. I blame Du(m)bya.

4. I agree. Also, i'm not crazy over the new guy Kevin O'Connor
In the past few years they been only working on projects for the wealthy. I miss the days of Bob Vila.

5. I hate Boob Vila
no practical knowledge at all. He relied on the tradesmen to do that. I found it funny when he pretended to help
look out, bob,s going to touch a tool. Will be use it? maybe, no he lifts it, looks at it, puts it down. Record unblemished.

6. Yeah, but when Bob was on the show, you could gain some....
"do it yourself knowledge" I'm sick of seeing them installing things most people will never own. Like a 10 thousand dollar fireplace mantel.

11. He would always rush people.
He kept saying, "ok, ok, uh huh, uh huh..." while people were operating joiners and band saws.

Personally, I'm a fan of Norm Abrams.

9. Found this online

But what about Steve? In a footnote added to Kevin O’Connor’s new host bio, it says that Steve left voluntarily to pursue other creative opportunities both in front of and behind the camera. How will the fans react? As the Post-Gazette story says:

Steve Thomas fans will no doubt be disappointed at his exodus, but the show has weathered a change like this before: In 1989, when Thomas took over after the contentious departure of Bob Vila, Vila’s fans were slow to accept Thomas, who brought a confident manner and an eclectic background as a carpenter, sailor, writer and world traveler to the show.

In the years since, Abrams, Trethewey and Silva have slowly eased into more prominent on-camera roles than they had with Vila. Each one now hosts different aspects of the show, speaking directly to viewers instead of to the host. By the end of the Steve Thomas era, “This Old House” was almost an ensemble piece, sort of a “Friends” with toolbelts.

10. Looks like Steve decided it was time to move on after 14 years.
"Fourteen years, 16 Emmys - I'm extremely proud of all the television we did," he tells Inside TV & Radio. "There are many other projects I want to take on in life, and I thought this was a great time to do it."

snip...

"The big project that I dearly want to do in my life is a project on the sea that really picks up where Jacques Cousteau left off."

He started work five years ago on this massive look at the state of the oceans. Now he's talking publicly, despite the fact that there's no deal and no funding.

He also just turned 50 and his father died in 2003, so it sounds like he wanted to do other things before it was too late.
