Tried posting this in general discussion, but not too many people seemed interested.

Ditka's out. The Nuge has been floated to replace Ryan; let's hope he's laughed off stage (a familiar experience for him, I'm sure).

The Repugs seem to think running celebrity has-beens is the key to winning around the country.

Let's have some nominations for other celeb washouts they can run. To which deranged part of the conservative American psyche would they appeal?

The object of this exercise is really to try to identify as many facets of conservative psychology as possible; so the nominees DON'T have to actually BE republicans, or we'd have quite a short list. Maybe they just need to be desperate enough for the limelight to sell their souls.

Here are some starters:

Andrew Dice Clay - no explanation needed

Ron Jeremy - porn-loving patriots would vote for him in a New York money-shot

Chris Walken - not a has-been, but perfect for the job. A master of the 1,000 yard stare, he played that guy in The Dead Zone who knew when people were in danger.. I'm thinking head of homeland security. A real Cassandra.

Jean-Claude van Damme - sounds French, but he loves vastly disproportionate violent retribution.

"Face" Peck (A-Team) - Glib, superficial, charming, great manipulator with total lack of remorse. Terrible shot, though.

Not Carroll O'Conner, who was a great liberal and is now deceased. But I wouldn't put it past the Repukes to run the character, because he embodies their values of bigotry and stupidity.
