2. I don't know about cherries

But "Pitch Black" isn't too bad. It depends on what you watch it for. It mixes several genres, so it doesn't quite feel that original. I found it enjoyable, but then I saw it on cable so I didn't have to leave the house to see it.

4. about the cherries

I don't think that they ever used formaldehyde to preserve Maraschino cherries. The main preservative would be the concentrated sugar syrup.

Here's a link to how they make them. My mother told me 35 years ago that they bleach the cherries white before coloring with the red food coloring. She had a thing about food additives and I sure she would have said something about formaldehyde.

I used to eat maraschino cherries all the time, but then my health-conscious grandmother found about the red dye in them and forced my mother to throw them away one.

It was a dark day in my childhood, that's for sure.:(
