Why is the song called "Suffragette City"?
Edited on Sat Jul-17-04 10:25 PM by LoZoccolo
It's kind-of implied that the verses of this David Bowie song are about closet bisexuality or something, but then how do you think the chorus fits into all that?

Oh don't lean on me man cuz you can't afford the ticket,
Back from Suffragette City

What do voting rights activists have to do with it?

(I'm kind of bored in a coffee shop and they started playing that over the sound system.)

2. I always though he used it because it rhymed
and it sounded good even just as suffer - jet, which made no sense.

6. Yeah, or the McCartney song "Jet"
I always thought he was saying that one would "Suffer a Jet" like a Jet was some sort of disappointment or something. Again, voting rights as a music motif.

That and McCartney's "Helen Wheels" which was obviously a play on "Hell on Wheels"

Saw a punk band a long time ago called "Human Suffrage" and we all wondered if they knew what Suffrage means, or if they meant "suffering"

4. I had a friend who used to play on the glam rock spandex chitlin...
circuit who insisted that Bowie sings "Suck a dick, Ziggy" during the extended chorus. Who knows?

7. I don't think he said that, but it would be a good additiion to....
....the archive of misheard lyrics at www.kissthisguy.com

(Named after the often misheard line in Hendrix's "Purple Haze")

Actually some of the entries they DO have for Suffragette City are just about as crazy...
