Best "homosexual" song?
I don't mean that in any derogitory way, mind you. I want to compile a CD of "homosexual" songs. But all I can think of is "Good old fashioned lover boy" (queen), "I wanna be a Homosexual" (screeching weasel) and "I heart fags" (Mc Frontalot)

That's three, and a cd can hold 13-20ish. feel free to post your favorite gay song.

Fast Love by Geroge Michael is fun to work out to.

10. "Michael", by Franz Ferdinand
A sample:

This is what I am, I am a man
come and dance with me Michael

so strong now, it's strong now
come and dance with me Michael

I'm all that you'll be, you'll ever see
so come and dance with me, Michael

So close now. You're so close now.
Come and dance with me. Comeanddancewithme.

Michael you're the boy with l l l leather hips
Sticky hair. Sticky lips. Stubble on my sticky hips.
Beautiful boys on a beautiful dance-floor
Michael you're dancing like a beautiful dance whore
Michael waiting on a silver platter now
and nothing matters now

11. Well, there is the Angry Samoans "Homosexual", but it's on the
homophobic/heterosexist side, same with "Tooling For Anus" by The Meatmen, no neither one probably cross the line into being "hate rock". But I'm surprised nobody's mentioned The Pansy Division-- the first gay punk rock band-- I'm sure you can find a song or two by them worthy of your collection.

12. Pansy Divisons lyrics crack me up (and I'm straight)
Here's one example (and just remember who claims to be from "West Texas"...)

There’s many a strange impulse out on the plains of West Texas;
There’s many a young boy who feels things he don’t comprehend.
Well small town don't like it when somebody falls between sexes,
No, small town don't like it when a cowboy has feelings for men.

Well I believe in my soul that inside every man there’s a feminine,
And inside every lady there’s a deep manly voice loud and clear.
Well, a cowboy may brag about things that he does with his women,
But the ones who brag loudest are the ones that are most likely queer.

Cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other —
What did you think those saddles and boots was about?
There’s many a cowboy who don’t understand the way that he feels towards his
brother,
Inside every cowboy there's a lady who'd love to slip out.

Ten men for each woman was the rule way back when on the prairie,
And somehow those cowboys must have kept themselves warm late at night.
Cowboys are famous for getting riled up about fairies,
But I’ll tell you the reason a big strong man gets so uptight:

Cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other —
That’s why they wear leather, and Levi's and belts buckled tight.
There’s many a cowboy who don’t understand the way that he feels towards his
brother;
There’s many a cowboy who’s more like a lady at night.

Well there's always somebody who says what the others just whisper,
And mostly that someone's the first one to get shot down dead:
When you talk to a cowboy don't treat him like he was a sister
Don't mess with the lady that's sleepin' in each cowboy's head.

Cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other —
Even though they take speed and drive pickups and shoot their big guns;
There’s many a cowboy who don’t understand the way that he feels towards his
brother;
There's many a cowboy who keeps quiet about things he's done.

And if that ain't country enough for ya, listen to this!

13. Glad to Be Gay - Tom Robinson Band
"...Now there’s a nightmare they blame on the gays
It’s ruthless and lethal and slowly invades
The medical facts are ignored or forgot
By the bigots who think it’s the judgment of god
Wankers like Etherton calling us names
The gutterpress dailies still fanning the flames
The message is simple and obvious, please…
Just lay off of the patient
Let’s fight the disease..."

And I think Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone" is also considered a gay anthem.

18. Twilight Zone a gay anthem???
OK, someone help the ignorant breeder out here, but I'm missing the gay references in a song that appears to be about a mafia hit,or a drug deal gone bad, or some combination of the two. For that matter, who knew the Dutch had a mafia?

Somewhere in al lonely hotelroom
there's a guy starting to realize
That he's eternal fate has turn it's back on him
And it's two a.m.......

It's two a.m. the fear has gone
I'm sitting here waitin' the gun still warm
Maybe my connection is tired of taken chances
Yeah there's a storm on the loose sirenes in my head
I'm wrapped up in silence all circuits are dead
I cannot decode my whole life spins into a frenzy
Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
The place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
The place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
I'm falling down a spiral destination unknown
A double crossed Messenger all alone
I can't get no connection I can't get through
Where are you
Well the night weighs heavy on his guilty mind
This far from the borderline
And when the hitman comes
He knows damn well he has been cheated
Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
The place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
The place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

And besides, if this were the case, shouldn't Golden Earring's other big hit have been titled "GAYdar Love"?

22. "I Was Born This Way" by Carl Bean
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 04:25 AM by slim
A disco song from 1978:

I'm walking through life in nature's disguise
You laugh at me and you criticize
'cause I'm happy, carefree and gay - Yes, I'm gay
It ain't a fault it's a fact
I was born this way

Now I won't judge you
Don't you judge me
We're all the way nature meant us to be

Chorus
I'm happy - I'm carefree - I'm gay
I was born this way
I'm happy - I'm carefree and I'm gay
I was born this way
I'm happy - I'm carefree - I'm gay
I was born this way
I'm happy - I'm carefree and I'm gay

You're Calling Me Strange
'cause You Don't Understand
God's Role For Me In Life's Overall Plan
I've Learned To Hold My Head Up High
Not In Scorn Nor Disgrace
Doin' My Thing So Individually
Entwined With This Human Race

Now I Won't Judge You
Don't You Judge Me
We're All The Way Nature Meant Us To Be

Chorus
I'm happy - I'm carefree - I'm gay
I was born this way
I'm happy - I'm carefree and I'm gay
I was born this way
I'm happy - I'm carefree - I'm gay
I was born this way
I'm happy - I'm carefree and I'm gay

You Laugh at me
And you got the nerve to criticize
If I were you - I'd sit down
And consider what you're doing
Love me like I love you
I was born this way

26. A small list...
"Don't stop me now"-- Queen
"La Difference" -- Lara Fabian
"I will survive" -- Gloria Gaynor
"Supermodel (You betta work)"-- RuPaul
"No Matter What" -- Boyzone

A more simple solution-- any song that we can latch on to that speaks to us. We've adopted cities, neighborhoods, etc and made them sing.

The same goes for various songs.

THe problem is, we're fickle. Songs go in and out of style. YMCA and It's Raining Men, however, still get folks singing along. As will most ABBA songs. Of course, folks will groan and say "it's so passe, etc," but to paraphrase a character from Joel Schumacher's Flawless, when speaking to some Log Cabin Republicans...

"We're all the same, you know. We all get down on our knees and suck c&*^. The difference is, you're ashamed of us. We're not ashamed of you. So F&*^ off, and God bless."

(BTW--this statement also goes out to all those Queer as Folk bashers who believe Six Feet Under represents true gay life) :)

"Never Let Me Down" (though some may dispute the homoerotic subtext of that one -- it's open to interpretation)

I'm taking a ride
With my best friend
I hope he never lets me down again
He knows where he's taking me
Taking me where I want to be
I'm taking a ride
With my best friend...

...Promises me I'm safe as houses
As long as I remember who's wearing the trousers
I hope he never lets me down again

30. Joe Jackson - "Real Men"

Take your mind back - I don’t know when
Sometime when it always seemed
To be just us and them
Girls that wore pink
And boys that wore blue
Boys that always grew up better men
Than me and you

What’s a man now - what’s a man mean
Is he rough or is he rugged
Is he cultural and clean
Now it’s all change - it’s got to change more
’cause we think it’s getting better
But nobody’s really sure

And so it goes - go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are

See the nice boys - dancing in pairs
Golden earring golden tan
Blow-wave in the hair
Sure they’re all straight - straight as a line
All the gays are macho
Can’t you see their leather shine

You don’t want to sound dumb - don’t want to offend
So don’t call me a faggot
Not unless you are a friend
Then if you’re tall and handsome and strong
You can wear the uniform and I could play along

And so it goes - go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are

Time to get scared - time to change plan
Don’t know how to treat a lady
Don’t know how to be a man
Time to admit - what you call defeat
’cause there’s women running past you now
And you just drag your feet

Man makes a gun - man goes to war
Man can kill and man can drink
And man can take a whore
Kill all the blacks - kill all the reds
And if there’s war between the sexes
Then there’ll be no people left

And so it goes - go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are

41. A serious pick
Homophobia by Chumbawamba

Up behind the bus stop in the toilets of the street
There are traces of a killing on the floor beneath your feet
Mixed in with the piss and beer are bloodstains on the floor
From the boy who got his head kicked in a night or two before
(Chorus)
No! Homophobia--the worst disease
Love how you want to love and love who your please
No! Homophobia--the worst disease
You can't love who you want to in times like these
In the pubs, clubs, and burger bars, breeding pens for pigs
Alcohol, testosterone, and ignorance and fists
Packs of hunting animals roam across the town
And they find an easy victim and they punch him to the ground
(Repeat chorus)
The siren of the ambulance, the deadpan of the cops
Chalk to mark the outline where the boy first dropped
Beware the holy trinity: church and state and law
For every death the virus gets more deadly than before
(Repeat chorus)

59. I really like the song You Make me Feel Mighty Real by Sylvester
and I like The Crying Game - Boy George did a remake but I don't know who did the original. But Boy George has such a lovely voice and it's a really sweet, sad song.
