LSU or Louisiana folks - need help on residency status. |
|
My 23-year-old daughter moved to Baton Rouge to finish up college at LSU this past February. She really moved there because Mr. Wonderful is in New Orleans and she could be close to him. She started working once she got there and rented an apartment. She has taken two classes this summer and is registered to go full time in the fall. When would she be considered a Louisiana resident? I have searched the LSU site and can't seem to find the info. Can she get resident status if she is a full time student or a student at all? Does she have to live there a certain amount of time without going to school to be a resident? Any info would be appreciated.

These are the criteria that the Board of Regents uses to determine eligibility for resident tuition charges:
1. Currently registered to vote in the State of Louisiana 2. Currently hold a valid Louisiana Drivers License 3. Own a vehicle and it is registered in the State of Louisiana 4. Filed Louisiana State income Tax returns for the past 24 months
In addition, if you are a student and don't have all of the above, if one of your parents meets the above criteria and you lived in Louisiana for your last two years of high school and graduated from a Louisiana High School you meet residency eligibility.
You can go to www.louisiana.gov and look for the Board of Regents website, or the site for TOPS tuition assistance at www.ofsa.state.la.us for more information.
Good Luck!
