OMG, I just saw my job advertised in the Sunday paper.
Fax number for my office. Exact wording as the job description I answered, except for "Summer vacations previously scheduled will be honored."

I've only had the job for five weeks and no indication that things weren't working out (no, not because I was oblivious). Nobody told me about any mistakes that have been viewed as fatal. I've figured that I was just getting oriented to the position, and minor mistakes would be made.

Oh well. I'm going to get the resume back online this afternoon.

At least I won't have the element of surprise working against me.

1. How awful! Are you sure they aren't hiring a second person, not replacing
you? What kind of job is it?

6. Ditto
However, I also believe in being prepared, so, go ahead and get that resume out.

Perhaps it was merely a sign that there's something better for you out there; that they are only adding another position at your place of employment but that you must be pro-active in securing a position that will be even better!

 :hi:

7. Paralegal. No, I get the distinct feeling it's replacement, not
duplication. It sucks to be right.

2. Perhaps they need two people performing the same job duties.
Hang in there until you find out what's going on.

3. You must be psychic
seeing as how you were perusing the classified ads and all.
Not to make light of such an important topic. I've been there too. I wish you the best. My advice is to hit the pavement hard. You should be one step ahead of them in no time.

5. Don't freak out yet...
You say you've only had the job for five weeks?

Sometimes companies will buy a block of time for an ad, and that ad will run for that block of time whether the job is filled or not.

Take the ad in to work with you. Ask them what's up.

8. Thank you, but no, that's not it. This NEW ad said "Summer vacations
prev. scheduled will be honored." That wasn't in the ad I answered. If anything, your advice calmed me down as I won't be fired (necessarily) within a day. It could be a while, giving me time to reorganize.

9. Why not ask?
Ask your supervisor about it - what's the worst that could happen, finding out that it's true?

10. uh, possibly fired on the spot?
if a boss figures you know your days are numbered, he's quite likely to get rid of you asap, lest you do some vindictive damage while still in a position to do the most harm.

better would be to redouble you efforts, work harder, go to your boss and say, "i don't think you've seen my best yet. here's what i'm going to do to improve my performance."

if you can show enthusiasm and improvement quickly, he may change his mind before it's too late.

11. Can you be fired for asking your boss if you need to do a better job?
Wouldn't that be grounds for a lawsuit?
