Favorite Source for Recpies - Book, Website, TV Show, Magazine, Etc
Where do you get recipes from?

My favorite sources are:

There's a penchant for white-trashiness here in choice of food, but it's nontheless quite good.

- How to Cook Everything, by Bittman. What a fantastic cookbook!

1. epicurious

eat.epicurious.com

They're the publishers of Gourmet and Bon Appetit.

I love it because people rate the recipes and suggest substitutions and alternate cooking methods etc.

Because I can never ever follow a recipe exactly, this site tells me what other people have done that worked or given me ideas for my own modifications.

They also have search engine for ingredients. Sometimes I'll buy something I've never cooked before because it's on sale and if you type in the ingredient, it will provide recipes for main dishes, side dishes etc. using that ingredient.

2. Gourmet Recipes
My favorite magazines and website for recipes, Gourmet and Bon Appetit, is epicurious.com. It also includes great reviews and tips by people who have tried the recipes.

3. Food Network

You an search for any recipe you see on any show.

http://www.foodtv.com/

I also have an old-fashioned, well-worn compendium called The Ladies Home Companion Cook Book produced right around 1920, I think. It's got every recipe or the seed of every recipe in it. Plus basic cooking tips and techniques.

This book has sentimental value for me too. It was my grandfather's and he gave it to my mother. Both of their notes are in it for recipes they used and modified.

If I don't know something, I'll start there.

5. those are my two choices as well
the Bittman bible is a godsend.

found some good stuff on allrecipes (like a great carne adovada recipe), but be careful of inaccuracies - if something doesn't sound right, get a second opinion.

9. A lot of brand names have websites
McCormick Spices, Sargento Cheese, Kraft Foods, Hershey's, Nestle's, M&M's Candy...the list is endless. Just go through your cupboard, look for brand names, then see if they have a website. Many of them do. Also, if you haven't seen Taste of Home magazine, you're really missing out. They have great recipes.

10. potluck
at reunions, church socials, fund-raisers, etc. When you taste something you like, ask for the recipe. You'll have a recipe for something you like, plus a new friend.
