When the new DOOM comes out next month...
1 - Will DU see a reduction of activity? ;-)

2 - Will we be organizing group play sessions?

3 - Will someone clue me in to how to play FPS on-line? I've played on-line games like City of Heroes and one-on-one Mechwarrior, but I've never tried to play group FPS. I hope some nice, kind DUer will help out all us newbies to group play.

2. I dig that!
I hope there's native Linux support, but otherwise I can wipe the dust off the Windows PC... :D

4. Linux news
There was also good news for Macintosh and Linux users not chafing under the Windows yoke. "Linux binaries will be available very soon after the PC game hits store shelves," said Hollenshead. "There are no plans for boxed Linux games," he added. Mac users, however, will have to wait a little longer. "We won't release the OSX version until it's just as polished as the PC version," he said. "The date for OSX DOOM 3 remains 'when it's done,' but I can confirm that it's definitely coming."

3. I didn't realize there was going to be multi=player too ...
Will I get to be a chainsaw-weidling manic, just like in real life?

In all honestly, I'll probably wait for the price to come down to around $30 before I buy it. Half-life2, on the other hand, is gonna be so sweet it makes my mouth water--and the mods, oh the mods ... :)

8. I don't know if I'll have a good enough computer
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 08:19 PM by khephra
I'm still grumbling because, after having computers for 23 years, my mom just bought her first one--and it's better than mine! She had to get one for work, but grumble, grumble, grumble.

She WILL let me play Doom on it though, so it's all good. :-)

Good thing is I got a new chair out of it and the new computer in a few months when she pays off this one. Even though she doesn't know how to use the Internet, she'll probably have a better one than me for the rest of my life now.

Grumble, grumble, grumble.

(I'm not that serious. I'm happy to finally have her joining the ranks of the computer literate. :-) )

9. Perhaps a DU only server?
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 08:24 PM by Endangered Specie
Playin FPS online... Its easy to hook up and play, but its hard to play well.

You will need a broadband internet connection, otherwise its no fun, servers kick 56kers.

Id recommend you'd go get Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (or dload it if you must).... Its a basic, cheap, shooter that is old but quite popular, the variety of servers and gameplays is quite large. It will offer some good training.

edit: Will be glad to introduce newbies to FPS's, there sorta my specialty ;)

10. I'm starting Painkiller tonight
Real-life based FPS just don't interest me. I've played many of them, but it takes a horror or science fiction background to get me into the game. No One Lives Forever is probably the best "real life" FBS that I've played.

11. Thats too bad...
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 08:39 PM by Endangered Specie
Im the exact opposite, I hate fanatasy/overly futuristic settings. Give me realistic or WWII based anyday!

Id make an exception for DOOM, just because its doom.
