Anyone else catch "Six Feet Under" tonight? How disturbing and
depressing to you was that episode? Can we say, "Don't pick up hitch-hikers?"

1. Yeah, poor David
BUT, did you catch Nate reading the newspaper saying: "Bush just keeps lying and people believe him"?

And I couldn't believe I was hearing my own ears...I thought ..Wow!

So glad you heard it, too. The Creator and directer Alan Ball must be a freakin' anti-bush baby!

Sorry, I meant to reply to #1..Vanessa!

2. very disturbing, agreed
I was holding my breath for the last 20 minutes. And it was a shocking look at a sociopath. Great show, IMO.

Tonight was particularly brutal though. I had a hard time watching it.

5. Me too - I had to keep leaving the room
and I ate about 8 cookies because I was so freaked out.

It was very powerfully done but I couldn't handle it. I can't/don't watch movies that are violent or have any kind of abuse, because I ALWAYS have nightmares if I do, so it really got to me.

This episode was a great statement advocating gun control, IMHO.

Peace.

was being shown on Skin-A-Max (as my husband calls it) a couple of times. I'm like you; I'll have nightmares, too.

7. I hated it.
How could David be so freakin' dumb?!

Are the writers running out of plot lines or something?

C'mon folks, you can do better than this!

14. The best part was when he was trying to get the guy to connect with
some human emotion when he was asking why or how could he be so disconnected from other human beings and their suffering. People like that really do not care. It is so hard to believe that and we keep asking how and why when there isn't really an answer. I told my husband I'm always looking for the answer to that question, and that somewhere inside them there must be some kernel of good so you keep
digging. Just like the joke about the kid and the pony, you keep digging because there must be a pony in here somewhere when in fact there is just a pile of crap. I thought this episode was beyond brilliant.

13. Does it seem the writers are getting more implausible
this season? First with the celebrity bodyguard thing and now with a assault/robbery/kidnapping. What's next, alien abduction?

Still one of my favorites, but I really don't see the need to reach for the crazy shit.

15. implausible?
That the show takes place over a longer period of time than most shows (months pass between episodes, children grow, visible wounds heal) I think that allows it to be a little more extreme in its stories. Crazy shit does happen. What I find somewhat disappointing is that they show seems to have lost focus on the characters. It used to be that the death in the beginning was tied in to the rest of the story, now it seems only obliquely related at best. Characters are seemingly introduced without really contributing much besides oddity, then seem to disappear without comment. I think I'm being a little to harsh here, I still think it's probably one of the best shows to have ever graced my television and I shouldn't bitch about something I admire so much.

17. I just saw it and thought it was phenomenal...
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 12:05 AM by Lindsey
It's totally in character for David to p/u a hitchhiker. He just does stuff like that. And...I don't think this scenario was unrealistic at all. Unfortunatley, this kind of thing happens way to much in L.A. and I'm sure other big cities as well. I do wonder why they are barely incorporating the initial death scene into the show like they normally have in the past. I also enjoyed that aspect of the show. I didn't hear ANY scene of Nate making the Bush comment. That's really going to piss me off if they edited it out..can they do that?

18. It was real early in the show
During the breakfast table scene, and it was really a throwaway remark.

By the way, that episode was directed by Alan Poul, who took one of the same classes I did at Yale. He got quite deeply into Japanese studies as an undergraduate, and afterwards, I kept hearing his name in connection with film-related matters.

20. Dude was stupid...could have escaped or hurt/killed the psychopath
several times:

i) taken off or backed up on the mofo when said mofo went to open the back door to get the body out of the van

ii) grabbed the gun and kicked mofo in the head several times, after he escaped from the back of the van, instead of running into a classic good place for ther bad guy to prevail

iii) used his cell phone at the same point in time

Sure, he's disoriented and confused, and scared, but he'd had the time to gather his wits a bit and get some presence of mind...certainly enough to escape from the van and time it so he hits the mofo with the van door. He made his night even rougher than it might have been...

22. the scenes with Brenda's mother
are always disturbing for me because I've had several people tell me how much I resemble her....I hope they're referring to the way she looks and not the way she acts. But I'm not sure.

23. I'm glad I'm not the only one disturbed from last night's episode
I really wanted to change channels but it was like the train wreck you just had to look at. And I loved how they cut-in with David's fantasies about the guy.

There will be plenty of fallout from this kidnap/abduction. First and foremost this will test Keith & David's relationship especially with the 'it's ok if you have a random from time to time' stuff. Second, that crackhead knows where David lives and I can see him showing up again to take advantage of the situation. I'm sure that's not the last we'll see of the crackhead. Finally, what about the deadbody that David lost - I'm sure we'll find out more in episodes to come!
