Besides written letters to the editor, the Journal also welcomes brief comments by telephone. Some of these are published each day on the newspaper's editorial page. To participate, call the Journal at 785-823-6464, extension 333. You do not have to leave your name. Recent calls include...

"Illegal parking, illegal drugs, illegal to drink and drive, illegal immigrants -- get the picture, illegal, illegal, not acceptable, illegal."

"To all of you people who eat macaroni and cheese with a spoon. That is just wrong. Macaroni and cheese should be eaten with a fork or a really big spoon."

"What kind of world do we live in where human beings lose their jobs and machines get tax breaks?"

"Quick, quick, will the sales tax be extended? The suspense is killing me. Not!"

"Sen. Roberts, head of intelligence for the Senate: The seats or the area in which you are first off the plane are called first class. Most of us don't get to sit on those on our vacation as we have to pay for the tickets ourselves. Oh, I'm sorry, I meant political junkets. Thank you."

"I was a single mother, not by choice. I did everything for my son, even when he was 30 years old, and he won't have a thing to do with me."
