CONFESS!!!!! Things you wish you could do at work, but you can't!!!
ME:

I'd love to be able to take a 20 minute nap at my desk during lunch time. God bless the power nap!!!

I'd also like to be able to work barefoot at work. Shoes are so overrated!!!

3. Wear whatever the hell I want.
Most of the time I just sit in my office and work, with my only client contact being via phone and e-mail. There is NO REASON for me to have to wear a dress shirt and tie and slacks four days a week. In fact, I get just as much done on casual Fridays as I do the rest of the week.

I don't mind dressing up for meetings or something important, but day-to-day, I should be allowed greater latitude in my standard of dress.

4. Nap!
just a little nap...and I would feel refreshed...I think right after lunch...that way I could take a 20 minute nap and then perhaps followed by a 15 minute walk outside...

that would be divine...

9. I work barefoot!
I love it. I wear my sandals to work, but the moment I sit down those babies are OFF! My frequent barefooted trips to the printer often cause some comments and stares, but I think the office has gotten used to my perdy little toes by now.

If I could do ANYTHING at work it would be take an hour nap, right now. I am so damn tired this morning!

....until I got sick of my 12 year old students hiding them from me. I wear Birkenstocks anyway, which is almost as good as being bare foot.

but go to various offices to see clients.

So I can do want I want at my home office. Like blast inappropriate music and dance in the kitchen. That is pretty cool. But then I miss out on watercooler-type gossip. At my old office I would just close the door and "meditate" for a few minutes.

My husbands office used to have a nap room, but I don't think anyone used it. Ironic, eh. I personally think people should be able to nap at work. I think there is some research implying that it improves productivity.

16. the art of sleeping at the office
You can do it! I used to do it all the time.

Train yourself to look at the monitor. I would wear a pair of headphones that stood out about three inches from my head. This made a very nice cushion to lean my head on, which I would hold up by my hand on the side where the desk was.

Before you doze off, program yourself for an interruption. I used to do it like this. I would continue to stare at the monitor, as if I were thinking or involved in something. Then I would lift one hand in acknowledgement of my boss or whomever was interrupting my nap, like "Hold on one second."

That second bought me a little wake-up time, during which I would gather my senses to deal with the interruptor.

Never once got caught and I did this every day. Every single day and sometimes a couple times a day. My naps only lasted for about 20" each but made me feel so much better.

Cher

p.s. If you have a private office, just close the door and lie down on the floor behind the door, where there is little traffic (cleaner). I would often do that, too, but only on lunch hour.

33. Have a 60 minute lunch let the rest of the world.
By contract, I am suppose to have a duty free 30 minute lunch. I'm a teacher btw. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Duty free lunch, that will be the day.

I guess it is mostly my fault that I have kids in for lunch detention, or if kids just want to talk, I don't throw them out....and I do choose to do work so I'll only have to stay until 5pm instead of 6pm.

When we, meaning teachers I work with, get to go to workshops, the 60 minute lunch they give us is such a luxury. It is amazing not to have to gulp down food.....or even just get to actually eat.

I guess the fact that I can wear blue jeans and tie dye shirts to work sort of make up for it. Of course I work in a liberal neighborhood, and have taught long enough that no one dares tell me what to wear.
